Find Ancestors

Harold Graham b 27/12/1926, in Liverpool, died 2011. I can only find one registration that may fit Harold in June qtr 1927, mothers maiden name Snape. Apparently Harolds parents were David Graham and Martha, but I also cannot find a marriage for the two of them. Martha apparently died in 1927/8 and David remarried in 1934. Would love to find Martha and David. Have checked freebmd and ancestry and no luck so far. Regards Linda .

Perhaps Harold was born out of wedlock and his birth was registered in his Mothers maiden name?

Aha, have just checked and found a death for one Martha Snape, June qtr 1927. Died in childbirth perhaps? And not married if I am going down the right path. off to ancestry again!! Linda :)

I suppose really , we ( You?) need to take a step back and look at harolds marriage cert- check his fathers name, check his age and perhaps witnesses.

I cannot see father david's supposed remarriage in 1934 anywhere obviously appropraite

Who registered his death? year out wouldn't be uinusual

Hi penny and Holly, had to nick off and cook dinner. Harolds birthday is def the 27/12/1926, and his parents were David and Martha. I tend to think the fact his birth and Martha's death were registered in the same qtr is relevant. And the marriage of Martha and Henry snape is interesting. david remarried in 1934 to Edith ? and they had a daughter Barbara in 1936. Shall try and look for Barbara's birth and Ediths maiden name. Then from there get their marriage cert which will hopefully give us david's fathers name, his age etc. Thanks for your help and suggestions, it is much appreciated. Linda

Hi, have just woken up (in aus). I'm beginning to think David never married!!! Barbara didn't have a middle name as far as I'm aware. Was on freebmd last night trying to match mothers maiden names of Barbara's born in 1936, but no joy. I have sent off for the June qtr birth cert of Harold, but they take an age to arrive here. Did he emigrate to Australia in 1951?

There is also a Harold Graham who marries in Liverpool in 1951 and looks like he is on the ER in the Merseyside area with his wife up until 2009

Hi Jax, if it's not his birthday then he and his son have been celebrating it incorrectly for the past 50 years, possible I suppose. My understanding is that in some circumstances births were registered later than allowed, and if we're on the right track and martha's death notice in the same qtr would possibly explain the family being a bit tardy. Harold did emigrate to aus in 1950/51 and as far as I know married in Aus. He was in the english military from approx 1945 - 49, and I thought I might try and go down that path next? Regards Linda

Martha Snape was a married woman so Snape was not her maiden name.

She also died in Clitheroe which is where she was living in 1911 (near Burnley) Harold was born Liverpool 50 miles away...she was also 47 not impossable but maybe a bit to old to be his mother??

Also that birth for a Harold in 1926 in West Derby...think he died in 1927

I am not saying this birth is not him, but it is possable that it belongs to the man who married in the UK in 1951.

As for date of births our family always thought that my grandfather was born in 1900. He married in 1929 age 29 on the cert., we dont think my gran knew any different...they died together so could never ask her.....I found out when starting my tree and could not find a birth cert for him that he was born 1897 correct birthday just wrong year....dont know why he lied but he did

The Harold Graham who went to Australia in 1951 gave an address as 12 Beechbank Road Liverpool...he was a clerk

It might be worth trying to contact the main Libarary in Liverpool to see who was living at that address in 1951

This could be the Graham/Snape marriage two children in Toxteth park and two in Liverpool
