There looks to be a Jones/Screaton birth in 1968.

Will pm it.

Have you contacted anyone else on genes who has Frances in their trees?

Kay????

Kay???? Report 13 Aug 2012 20:04

Hi Isobel.

Not in this instance as when she re-married Widdowson was her actual surname, after divorce many women revert back to their maiden name and if Frances had done it would have shown as Frances Screaton.married Mr K Jones.

Her headstone just shows she was initially Frances Screaton.

Hope this clears that bit up for you.

A tree on ancestry confirms that dob and death. It shows 6 siblings for Frances, 3 of which have died by now.

Births from the second marriage should show Screaton as the maiden name. Looks like she had 3 daughters to Widdowson between 1956 & 1959.

Isobell

Isobell Report 13 Aug 2012 20:19

yes i know of the 3 daughters to widdowson,i just wondered if the rumours of her re-marry and having more children were true and its appears to be.

Was there a Rose on the sibling list? and a harold?

thanks flip x

Flip Report 13 Aug 2012 20:26

Sorry, but no Rose or Harold - but the living siblings are hidden.

There's Violet 1920 - 2003, Beatrice 1924 - 2010 and George Alfred 1932 - 2001.

According to the tree the parents are George Alfred Screaton (b1886) and May Passingham Screaton (1900 - 1978) but I can't find a marriage for them. And the births of the children give mmn as Screaton??

Isobell

Isobell Report 13 Aug 2012 20:38

yes ive come across this but it had father as unknow and i wondered why the children had there mothers name,do you know of any reasons why this would be?

patchem

patchem Report 13 Aug 2012 20:42

I assumed that Frances and Rose were illegitimate as they had no separate Father's name (Rose just popped up on a quick search)

Flip Report 13 Aug 2012 20:42

Looking at the bmd, this could be the parents:

Births Sep 1886 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Screaton George Alfred Barrow S. 7a 173

Births Jun 1900 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Screaton May Passingham Barrow S. 7a 172

But I'm not sure about that tree. I have a link to Barrow upon Soar parish records, I'll try to find it & post up.

Parish records, but I haven't tried to check them yet.

Isobell Report 13 Aug 2012 20:49

what makes you think frances was illegitimate patchem?

thank you flip that would be great

Flip

Flip Report 13 Aug 2012 20:56

Don't think it will be a lot of use, just tried to find George & May's birth but no luck.

i cant open the files as i dont have ms excel :(

Flip Report 13 Aug 2012 21:11

Don't worry, there's nothing to find. There aren't any christenings recorded, or marriages.

However, that tree has George Alfred getting married to Eliza Botterill in June 1907 (Barrow upon Soar), although there is something wrong with the bmd indexing I think they may be right. There's a marriage for him, with a missing female, and a marriage for her with a missing male, June qtr 1907.

Maybe he wasn't free to re-marry?

patchem Report 13 Aug 2012 21:14

If Mr Jones marries Miss Brown, the child e.g. Frances will appear as
Births Sep 1935
Jones Frances Brown Melton M. 7a 441
so either Mr Screaton married Miss Screaton for your Frances, or there is no Father on the birth certificate, so illegitimate.
