Taking on board all your advice, I have found marriage cert for Harriet Hannah b 1906 and Benjamin Exley b 1904, this gives her fathers name- Amos Arthur Nunn, I think that Arthur had Harriet Hannah before he married Elizabeth Williams Hanson, as far as I can make out, but, Dolly was supposed to have been born 1925, the mind boggles to say the least, but at least you have all given me important info for my family tree.

Well done GlitterBaby - that confirms that Harriet was the child of Amos Arthur without having to buy the birth certificate.

Gatelady

Are you saying that the Amos who is on the 1911 census aged 1 was your grandfather?

If so then I can't understand that because there is this death in 1911 just after the census was taken:-

Name: NUNN, Amos
Registration district: Hemsworth
County: Yorkshire
Year of registration: 1911
Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Age at death: 1
Volume no: 9C
Page no: 256

I can't find the birth of another Amos Nunn in Yorkshire after that date.

I'd put money on Harriet Hannah Nunn being the "Dolly" you are looking for. She married Benjamin Exley and died at a relatively young age (25). I'd be inclined to buy her birth certificate to determine whether Amos and Elizabeth were her parents.

I can find no female birth with surname Nunn, mother's name Hanson that has a name that can remotely resemble something that Dolly could be a permutation of. In fact I can find no female birth at all that matches.

Gatelady, what are your sources?
