John Watson Whittingham born 1912 England. With his parents Joseph and Bertha Whittingham (her maiden name being Watson) arrived Quebec Oct. 1927 White Star Dominion line, SS Doric. He ended up as a Major, Canadian Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. After sustaining a head injury in Italy he returned to his mother 's home on Dean Rd/St, in Kingston Ontario in 1944. His service no was ZP1717. His father died in Cornwall, Ontario in 1957 but cannot find trace of John or his mum's burial place. Any eagle eyes out there got any suggestions? :-)

I live in Cornwall, Ontario. We have a wonderful website here where volunteers have photographed all of the tombstones in the area. You'll find a photo of Joseph's gravestone here:

Thanks BM's daughter! Yes I have found that about 15 mins ago! so on we go …..

Margee - I have just tried that link but sadly I wasn't allowed on :-( but will copy and paste to a different server and see what happens. Can you tell me anything about community cremation graves in Canada? I have found a grave for a J W Whittingham at the Maple Grove cemetery on line, it is the same year of birth, but no other info and there are lots of other names on the gravestone but none seem related?? sorry if that sounds confusing!! Is this him? At the same address, 512 Sherbourne Rd. is Mrs Yvonne Whittingham.

looks like it could be! mmmm this could be another brick wall though as I bet the army can't help, well, security reasons etc. I think I might try to email that cemetery I spoke of earlier. A long shot but worth a try! Thanks again

Looks like John is now under the name of Jack, as we know this is a nickname for John.

Eunice, is the Maple Grove Cemetery that you mention the one in Cornwall? If so there are no Whittinghams buried there according to that Cornwall Roots site. Actually the only Whittingham on the whole site is Joseph. The tombstone reads:

In loving memory of
JOSEPH WHITTINGHAM
1883-1957
Husband of
BERTHA WATSON

Hi Margee -this is definitely them. The other grave is a community/communal one , I have a photo from online. It is interesting about Yvonne BM'sD, i have now got them on the 1962 and 1968 voters lists. on the '62 he is down as retired/ Ri-Tirixl but on the '68 simply as Rep.

I see, not the Maple Grove Cemetery in Cornwall. Sorry, Eunice, I've never heard of a community cremation grave before. Most of the cremations that I know of are in a columbarium wall.

Seems possible that the son mentioned who married in 1971 may have done well for himself if you google the name. The clipping that I posted, think you need to join that site to see more, no doubt it would cost though.
