From http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1340979?page=2

"Hi there, just wandering if you could help me find Leonard James Francis McGrath, which I believe to be my real grandfather. He married a gwenneth laws and had two children to that marriage. Thank you jo"

Jo - did you ever get your mother's full birth certificate to check the father's name? If so, what did it say re: her father? If not, well I think that's the next step.

The Leonard that I posted was a Clerk after the war but that's not to say he didn't serve in the Navy during the war but I very much doubt he would have been an Admiral. Could Admiral have been a bit of glorifying of his position? If you could access the death notice in The Sydney Herald in May give more information about his life. Failing that his death certificate would give details of his children?

EDIT

I don't see a death for his wife but I suppose she could have remarried after he died.

Jo, you're asking who James Bylos/Demetrius parents were - did you follow up on the immigration papers I advised?

His marriage certificate in 1944 should name his parents also.

Jo, there's no guarantee that Anastassios was his brother, it may have been a cousin.

I posted the links above for the naturalisation records but unfortunately the search results time out after a few hours so you'll need to do the search yourself. The records are on National Archives of Australia.

Here's the link to do a name search:
http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/NameSearch/Interface/NameSearchForm.aspx

Put Hlentzos in the Family Name box and select "Immigration and Naturalisation records" from the drop down menu next to Category of Records and then press the Search button. There should then be a box saying there are 6 records found - click on "Display" and then you'll see them.

When you select the record for Hlentzos, Demetrios then there should be a link on the top right of the record that says "Request Copy" - follow that process.

Of course, you may want to try some searches under other categories to see what else comes up.

I think it said his brother on the artical on fate determined by a toss of a penny.
Well I didn't have any luck with finding anyone that's related this morning, by calling everyone listed.
Where do I get the paper work on naturalisation?
Once again you have all been a great help
Thank you again jo
