No I haven't got the marriage certificate for Harry James BUrton or Alice Maud MAnsell but I've got Gladys Birth living at 7 Westbank road Richmond and on the marriage certificate the address is 45 towns field street CHelmsford and it states Harry J as the father .Harry James Burton is on the 1911 census living with Alice and her dad George do you think I've possible got the wrong family lol I'm getting confused :-S

I've only got Gladys birth and marriage certificate ..0n her birth certificate her father is Harry James Burton the address is 7 Westbank road Hampton on hill Richmond her mother was a definite Alive Maud Mansell .on her marriage certificate she was living at 45 Townsfield street Chelmsford in 1931 . :-S

The 1911 census is correct, but I think you have been tracing the wrong family for Harry Burton.

Take a look at the information found on here by rootgatherer it may put you on the right track. Your Harry was born c1885/6 but the Harry you've been following was born in 1883.

I think you need to order the marriage certificate of Alice and Harry to confirm the information (age, father's details etc). When you have the correct info you can then trace Gladys's paternal (Burton) Grandparents.

CYCLE CASE AT CHELMSFORD
Chelmsford, on Saturday, before the Mayor. Harry James Burton, a labourer, of Chelmsford, was, charged with stealing a bicycle, value £3 of James Pitman, a fitter of Compasses-road, Chelmsford. Prosecutor said he went to the Compasses lnn on Thursday, leaving his cycle outside. Accused came in, they had a conversation, and witness stood him a drink. Accused left first. A few minutes later witness went out and the bicycle had gone. Detective Sergt. Flack spoke to receiving the accused from the Police at Hampton, Middlesex. Defendant said "I am very sorry, I should not have done it, only I was in drink". witness recovered the cycle from the kitchen of a house at Hampton. Accused's wife came from Hampton. A remand was ordered, and bail was offered.

Thomas Harris was born in Chelmsford, one of nineteen children. He worked at Crompton’s for nine years, married in January 1917 and joined the army. He was killed in action in October 1918. Aged 23, Thomas married Kate Emma Burton on 20th January 1917 at Chelmsford Cathedral. At the time he was a clerk, living at 52 South Primrose Hill (the same property as in 1901, but renumbered). His 20 year-old bride was the daughter of the moulder James Alfred Burton, and lived at 45 Townfield Street, Chelmsford.
