The baptism is the exact same date as the second marriage ceremony -23rd June 1923, so I suspect you are right and it is Emma Edith Weller as was.

Still the possibility that the James George Burgan also baptised 1923 might be her child.

EDIT: on the baptism transcription, Emma Edith's parents are recorded as John and Jane Burgan, though.

The Church of England will marry anyone who professes to be a Christian. They do not have to be baptised in any denomination.

I have now found the birth of 6 more sons in England from 1926-36. Don't know if there are any more in India or any daughters.

Wondering if that baptism was Emma Edith Weller as was, as she was born c1902/3. Think we only found baptism records for the 1st 4 of the family & she was no. 7. Her family were RC but we don't know what this baptism was do we? Would she have had to be baptised/rebaptised CofE if that's where wedding was?

How strange to have a 2nd ceremony 6 months later! Is there any record of any children being born in India or had they moved to the UK by then?
Thank you for all this information. I too have to keep going back and checking all the posts again.
I think now that one William Thomas Weller is the wrong one, but not sure if I have the birth of the right one! I had never thought that Weller was a common name until I started looking and to have several of the same name and age is very muddling.

Very interesting. So G/Grandfather did something wrong - that was never mentioned! I have a horrid suspicion that my G/father did too.
I am in touch with relatives of Edith Coles but didn't know that they went back to India in 1915. Strange in the middle of WW1. Wonder when they came back to UK. Think there were 2 more children after Jenny (Jennet).
Thanks so much.

Ah, thank you. Obviously not the same person then. This is what I find so confusing when there are several people with the same name in the same place!

Gritty

Gritty Report 30 Dec 2014 15:38

I'm late joining this thread and don't want to confuse things, but wanted to mention that the baptism put up earlier (pasted below), gives William's parents as John and Mary.

However, on the military record that was put up for him, there is a document included before his marriage (where his age is given as 14 years and 7mths) which states he was born Seetang, Burmah, and his next of Kin is given as Mother SARAH, Bangalore.

I don't think that is the right Lillian (Lily) Scott as I have a photo supposedly of her in UK in 1926.
I have Esther's married name as Parsous, not Parsons, so maybe that's why I haven't got anywhere - all the other names are the same.
Yes, that sounds like William John. I had never know my Grandmother had a brother until recently, but if he died young, that's probably why.
Information I have for the last sister I know of, Emma Edith, is that she married a James Burgan in India. Possibly the same person who had several sons born in UK.
