I have the birth certificate of Alice Lydia Whitehead, born 29 Jul 1920 in Bolton. Parents are shown as Percy Winton Whitehead and Alice Mary Hawkins. Trying to work backwards I can't find a marriage for Percy and Alice. I've looked on freebmd and fmp - any suggestions? I can't even find a birth for Percy and you'd think that would be easy with a name like his.

Good morning to you. Thanks so much for all this info, far more than I expected.

I've had a good look at the info you gave me Jacqueline, thanks. I'm a bit puzzled as to where the Mawdsley name fits in. I see a William Whitehead and a William Mawdsley, both married to Mary Boone. Am Imissing something.

He was using two different names, illustrated by the marriage record, as transcribed on LancsBMD.

He was illegitimate, as is shown by the fact that no father was named on the PR of the marriage, posted above at 10.29 yesterday
