Gins, address on the baptism of Albert Robert Howard looks like 24 Carter Street (or possibly Castor Street).

Father, John Thomas Howard is a Carpenter.

Also baptised same date:

William Pyers- son of William & Selina Pyers of same address as above

oh my goodness lots of info to decipher here thank you so much.

Think I have been onto the family that Gritty mentions (Eliza Pyers)
but because I couldn't find parents I gave up. Intrigued to see the names Abell and Howard crop up especially Howard as that was my Grandads middle name and he had an older brother with the middle name of Abel.

Malyon's William is def correct...so my GG Grandmother is Sarah Ann....not sure who Sarah Elizabeth is.....Gritty are you saying that Sarah lied about her father...potentially the William Francis Pyers (mariner) that I'm looking for??

More confused than ever now!!! lol... :-S

Deborah

Deborah Report 8 Aug 2015 13:22

Clara Hagger was my G Grandmother...William's second marriage he was married to her sister first Mary Ann he had at least 12 children between them x

Gritty

Gritty Report 8 Aug 2015 14:07

I think it's possible that Sarah Ann and Sarah Elizabeth are the same people, and that William Francis Pyers was illegitimate.

The address on William Francis' baptism in March 1859 is given as New Inn Yard and his father is listed as a mariner.

When Sarah Elizabeth marries the following year, her address is New Inn Yard, and her husband is a mariner.

Gee Report 8 Aug 2015 14:32

This looks like Sarah

Name:Sarah Elizabeth Pyas

Record Type:Baptism

Baptism Date:14 Jan 1838 Age: 4 weeks & 3 days (fits with the birth registration)

Father's name:Robert Pyas <<? maker

Mother's name:Mary Pyas

Parish or Poor Law Union:Shoreditch St Leonard

Borough:Hackney

Register Type:Parish Registers

Struggling to read the address and occupation of Robert

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 8 Aug 2015 14:42

Sarah Baptism - Occupation of Robert looks to be Stone Mason and I think address is Wood Builds presumably Woods Buildings.

Gritty

Gritty Report 8 Aug 2015 14:56

the only thing that's bothering me is when Sarah marries to John Thomas Howard in 1860 she's listed as a minor, yet according to the baptism she would have been over 21.

Is it possible she didn't know her age?

totally confused....inspite of all the help thanks

Still feel no further progress made in tracking down Sarah Peryer my gg grandmother and William F Pyers my gg grandad.....unless I'm totally missing the point

Gritty

Gritty Report 8 Aug 2015 16:47

Sorry to have confused you! - perhaps the address on William Francis Pyer's baptism being the same as Sarah Elizabeth Pyers marriage is just a coincidence- I just thought it may be worth looking into.

Good luck with your search

Gee

Gee Report 8 Aug 2015 21:02

Gritty

'a coincidence' I don't think so

It is absolutely a weave of intriguing,,,,,

I can't find evidence of another 'Sarah' that would diminish our hypothesis

Deborah

Deborah Report 8 Aug 2015 21:32

Perhaps William Francis and Sarah Elizabeth were brother and sister with a big age gap that's why they were at the same address until she married

Gins, it is a hard one to put down!

Deborah, who did William list as his father on his marriages?

What address did he give on his first marriage, and who were the witnesses?

My G Grandad William Francis Pyers was born on 4th March 1859 this I know for sure.

His parents are clearly stated on his birth certificate as William Francis Pyers (mariner) and Sarah Peryer of 28 Whitecross Place Shoreditch.

I have just started looking again after a 4 year break and I must admit that I have never obtained either of his marriage certificates as I was always told the story of his marriage to two sisters and all the brothers and sisters my Grandad had.

Obviously this is the next thing I need to do.....I never thought of it.
:-D

I've checked 28 Whitecross Place in the 1861 Census; there appear to be four families living in the property but none seem to be the family that we are looking for.

Deborah

Deborah Report 9 Aug 2015 08:09

the mystery continues...the fact that by his baptism 4 weeks after his birth the address has changed to 9 New Inn yard is also confusing

am very grateful for everyone's input <3

Gee

Gee Report 9 Aug 2015 08:58

I wouldn't worry about the change in address. It was quite common for families to move on a regular basis for the period we are looking at

Deborah

Deborah Report 9 Aug 2015 09:12

well I have now sent off for one of the marriage certificates, lets hope it sheds some light for me :-)
