Good find Claire...I think James and Alfred are right - not sure about William - Pembrokeshire not Cardigan....

I'm not 100% on William but these people must have been very well off so it's possible that he was born in one county and baptised in another. Will we ever know?

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 27 Sep 2015 14:22

I think Cardigan is correct - that's where Mary came from as well (and probably where James came from).

(from Will posted earlier, (Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills, 1384-1858 Ancestry) names a Brother John Francis, Scolton, Spittal, Pembroke, he is a Farmer, 1841, Marriage 1836, Mary Ann Dempster)

(used to be able to search FreeREG, by adding name of Parent, and up came children, seems no longer works, due to 'New' look site, sad!)

Yes possibly - she was Elizabeth Mary Cordes Francis. It wouldn't be the first time someone transposed their names

The boys might well have had fees reduced at their schools because they were the sons of a clergyman, or they might have received special scholarships or bursaries as their father was a deceased clergyman

Claire ............... could you see which schools they were at?

James was at the Clergy Orphan School for Boys

Wm (who may be a red herring) Dean's Yard number 2 Boarding house for West School

From doing a bit of google, I think this is Westminster School

Alfred was at Christ's Hospital School, Newgate
