I think this might be relevant, for Bedford Chapman

Patrick Turner Male 35 1806 -

Note there is no birth for a Bedford Smart so I am reasonably sure this is Bedford Chapman with his mother and another child

I would say there was as much chance of her being the Birmingham Mary as the Toxteth one? especially since the Smith family were in Birmingham in 1861?

But I do think you will have to try and get the cert for one or other of the older children pref' Vandeleur if only to confirm that they all have the same mother?

Thanks
No clue there then ! Ha ha
These are a remarkable family and Mary is such an important part of it I will keep trying to trace her family until I find her parents or was she also brought up by someone else??

Rambling

Rambling Report 14 Oct 2015 19:56

Probable for Bedford not that it helps any, but does perhaps tie in with the family being in Leicestershire as per some of the children's births

Other relatives closely connected have mentioned the Irish connection and Romany connection. I have followed up all the children and marriages but must admit first time Bedford has come up I will follow this up I have also not been able to find a death for Maria Cowling mentioned earlier as I thought if he had been married twice first wife may have died also not found a connection in. Boston

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 14 Oct 2015 19:33

But Mary is not with Millicent in 1901? (You give a death of 1909 for Mary)

I'm struggling to see how Boston Lincolnshire (on all census returns) could be wrong?

I doubt the burial record would give maiden name.

You say you know there is a connection to Ireland- how do you know this.

I think Bedford's parents/ family might be worth following.

Tracker Report 14 Oct 2015 19:24

Millicent looked after Mary until she died this family throughout the generations took on each others children and brought them up so there is mix of children and Grandchildren living together again Bedford is a name associated with Romany families I think someone assumed Boston lincolnshire There must be a maiden name mentioned for Mary on some record somewhere would it be on parish record for her burial at St Botolps Quarrington.

Thankyou odd names these children
I have been looking for the death of Mary Smith thinking it may give me her maiden name
Somehow I think the Toxteth census seems right how can I check if she is related to anyone else on that census?
I know she was illiterate

I have her death in Sleaford 1909 buried St BotolphsChurch quarrington as are most of the family where we read her headstone it says loving wife of Edward Smith

No she had many children but I did note that the ages of the chidren suggested that one woman would not have spanned that childbearing age
