This seems to be the 1901 census for the family Frances has given the births for:

1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
9, Friendly Street, Shipley, North Bierley, Yorkshire, England

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Gender Age Birth year Occupation Birth place

Mary Adams Head Married Female 45 1856 - Retford, Nottinghamshire, England
Gertrude Adams Daughter Single Female 17 1884 Woollen Weaver Skipton, Yorkshire, England
Lilian Adams Daughter Single Female 13 1888 Worsted Spinner Windhill, Yorkshire, England
Grace Adams Daughter Single Female 11 1890 - Bradford, Yorkshire, England

So are those Warwickshire and Worcester baptisms just a coincidence?

On the image for the 1899 baptism of Emily Beatrice Adams, father Charles was a brass caster and they lived 1 Court, 1 House, Milton Street.

Frances, do you know anything about your Charles' occupation?

Thank you malyon, your findings are most interesting as I thought the family had stayed in Yorkshire, from

Births Mar 1890
Adams Grace Beatrice Bradford, Y.
9b 167

Births Jun 1888
Adams Lilian May Bradford, Y.
9b 219

Births Dec 1883
ADAMS Gertrude Mary Skipton
9a 47

so I wonder why they were christened elsewhere?

malyon

Thanks Kath and lostmeboardname . Seems like I need to be persuasive to get the marriage certificate then.

As Jan says, the marriage certificate would be your best bet. It would give his approximate age and his father's name and occupation if you are lucky.

The only other thing to do would be to go to the Yorkshire County Records office to look at the parish records, but if you don't know the exact parish then you may have to look through a lot of records.

Think you may have to purchase the marriage certificate, so you will then have
his fathers name to avoid tracing back the wrong Charles.

Breaking news at end of thread........

I have found this marriage in FreeBMD :-

Marriages Mar 1882
Pettinger Mary Hannah Bradford Y.
9b 227

ADAMS Charles Bradford Y
9b 227

Would it show up anywhere else with more detail as Charles does not show up in the 1891 census and I need to find a way of learning more about his past. I have a single line for Charles H Adams in 1881 but, as the marriage has not yet happened, there is no way of proving the connection. I find this all very frustrating and hope one of you clever people can see a way round it please?

Many thanks,
Frances
