Evening Eunice- You may have found more yourself, but just in case, following on from Maddie's US records this is a little more on Henry John Bush (Later known as John Henry)

I believe he was in the US in 1899 and joined the army- the date of birth is out, but I'm pretty certain it's him:

U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914

John Henry Bush
Enlisted 21 March 1899 Bangor, Maine
Born: Bristol, England
Age 21, and 3 months
Occupation: Cook
Brown Hair, Brown eyes, height 5' 9 1/4 "
Discharged: 1908
--------------------------------------------------------

He then marries in 1912 to Bertha Willard- she was also know as Bertha Linden (I presume her mother remarried to a Mr Linden):

Indiana, Marriage Index, 1800-1941

Name John H. Bush
Spouse Name Bertha Willard
Marriage Date 30 Dec 1912
Marriage County Lake
Household Members
Name Age
John H. Bush
Bertha Willard
--------------------------------------------------------------

John and Bertha have at least two daughters:

Florence born 19th Feb 1913 Cook, Illinois, died 1986 married name- Skibinski
Frances born 29th June 1920 Chicago, Illinois, died 2003 used the surname Rizzo
-----------------------------------------------------------

John H is then mentioned on the WW1 Draft Registration Card put up by Maddie- listed as Brown hair/ brown eyes, DOB- 18 Dec 1880
---------------------------------------------------------

John Henry is still in Illinois on the 1940 US census with Wife and Mother-in-law
---------------------------------------------------------------

But John and Bertha die in Florida:

Hello Eunice,

I think Rose may be correct about one of Alfred's siblings going to America- I think it was Henry John Bush- I think he probably went by the name John Henry- although I'm getting a bit muddled with the US records.

I'll return to it later- or may be someone else will take a look- for reference, we are looking for:
Henry John Bush born 18th Dec 1880 Bristol

Alfred's sister, Florence Emma married Henry J Bridle in 1902 DEVON

Florence's birth:

I think it's going to be difficult to be certain finding George as I can't see a definite birth registration for him or baptism.

Eunice

Eunice Report 19 Mar 2016 16:25

George was 2 years older than Alfred so he would have been 16 17 in 1891 but it could still be him if the age was given wrong or printed wrong

Eunice

Eunice Report 19 Mar 2016 16:07

looks very much like our Alfred and looks like he really had a bad time after his mother died I was just sat here thinking how Alfred would be looking after his brother George both being so young but looks like George was on his own for a few yrs it just is so so sad

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 19 Mar 2016 16:07

I know the age is a little out, but wondered if this was George in 1891:

Eunice, there is an article in the paper re an Alfred Bush- but I'm not 100% that it's your Alfred- although it looks likely.

Bristol Mercury - Monday 23 June 1890

BRISTOL POLICE COURT- SATURDAY

THEFT FROM A BARGE.
Alfred Bush, aged 14 years was charged on remand with stealing, in company of three other lads, a drawer and various articles, value 5s, the property of Thomas Ferris, captain of the barge 'Faith'. The case was proved on Friday, the boys having been seen on the previous evening to forcibly enter the cabin of the barge whilst it was lying in the Floating Harbour near Canon's Marsh. Prisoner was committed to gaol for 10 days, and ordered to be afterwards sent to a reformatory for five years.
-------------------------------------------

The above refers to this Alfred which could be yours:

1891
Alfred Bush Under detention in Reformatory 14, Bristol

Civil Parish: Oldland
Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity
County/Island: Gloucestershire
Registration district: Keynsham
ED, institution, or vessel: 10

Eunice

Eunice Report 19 Mar 2016 15:05

well at least he found some hope in his life and we no Alfred survived but how would be nice to find out that leaves George because he would have been about 15 at this time and Alfred about 13 thank you for all this help Austin

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 19 Mar 2016 14:52

Yes, the youngest, Charles, was just a baby too. I've been trying to find the older children from the 1881 census- not sure they all survived though

In 1891 Stephen (Alfred's oldest brother) was lodging with the Hayes family age 16 and working as a labourer.

Eunice

Eunice Report 19 Mar 2016 14:45
