Henry was a joiner in 1911, so could the occupation in 1939 above be some form of joinery...or is that just wishful thinking??

If you have no idea when he died then who's to say he was alive in 1939 under his own or any other name or even in the country. I know it says Olive is married but that may have been to save face,or a genuine she didn't know he was dead, so presumed still alive and therefore married. ??

His death could have been registered wherever by someone who didn't know his full name, age or whatever.

I can see 2 Henry S Stanton deaths b 1884 d 1958 and b 1890 d 1968 but no corresponding births for e.g..

You would think heat Henry Stanton could be found on the 1939 register on FMP but theres nothing xx

If I or you can find the above Joseph Stanton on a census with Henry Stanton his son that would defo make me believe its the right family, hopefully a step closer xx

Hi Maddie, thanks for all your help. Yes that is the family that the request has come from they are as stuck as me unfortunately. I did see the 1901 entry but because Henry wasn't on it I dismissed it, its a good match for Josephs occupation certainly. Henry would have been about 13 in 1901 so possibly still at home. Henrys place of birth in 1911 was given as Barnetby, is that near Bourne do you think, as I see Joseph above died in Bourne?

Looking at that death too Maddie, but the marriage was June Qtr when Joseph was already declared as dead, but stranger things have happened

Not seeing Joseph in 1911?

greyghost

greyghost Report 9 Jun 2016 14:18

Son Harry probably married in 1943 in Gainsborough RD and there are 3 births showing that are probably to that marriage. Maybe you can chase them forward to see if anyone has any further information or is that where your request for help has come from?

There are also probable siblings to Harry.

Thanks for help greyghost. This is a hard one, its like Henry Stanton in 1911 just appeared from no where. Not sure where to go now to be honest with it. :-(

greyghost Report 9 Jun 2016 14:05

Yes, just trying to show that the STENTON family suggested as a possible was unlikely as that Joseph was still alive when Henry married. Railway job a coincidence?

Dawn

Dawn Report 9 Jun 2016 13:58

According to Henry and Olives marriage certificate, Joseph Stanton, Henrys father is written down as railway inspector, deceased.

Possibly Joseph Stenton's death, so still alive when Henry STANTON married.

1911 census has Joseph and family in Cleethorpes which by now is in the Grimsby RD

Thanks for all your help. I have found him on the 1911 census but that is the only one I can find. The family he is boarding with in 1911 are his future in laws as he married Oliver Palmer on 17 April 1911. I'm thinking that Joseph Stanton may not be his biological father but may have been the man who brought him up, hence taking the name Stanton.
Yes greyghost, that is his wife Olives death reg. The story goes that Henry Stanton disappeared from his family around 1924ish never to be seen or heard from again. I have no idea if he had any siblings, or when he died or even if he remarried at all. That's where I'm hoping you lovely lot can help cause I'm totally baffled xx :-D

The Stenton marriage and birth of Samuel (Caistor covers Cleethorpes). There might just have been enough time to have another child between marriage and Samuel's birth depending on real time dates,
OR Henry was a bit older and a child of Sarah Jane
Or Stenton is a red herring but seems too good a match with Father's occupation.
