Hi everybody, just wondering if anyone can help before I go crazy.
I am researching Wilkins family and cannot work out what happened to Johnny Wilkins. He was born 1871 in Llangedeirn, Carmarthenshire to John Wilkins & Eliza Rees He married Emily May Walters in 1892 and had 3 kids (Edna May, Vernon Lloyd (my partners great grandfather), & Mildred Norma). Emily died in 1897.
Johnny remarried in 1902 to Mary Ann James. I have recently found he had 2 more kids Beatrice Mona (1903) & Henry Garfield (1904)
Henry Garfield wilkins is on the 1911 census with another family as 'adopted son'. I can't find Beatrice on 1911 census but is on 1939 register living with Margaret Webb (nee James) her Auntie, she married Walter Filby in 1946.
I can't find Johnny or Mary Ann on the 1911 census nor any trace of them after the birth of Henry in 1904. Can anyone help? I wonder why the 2 youngest kids seemingly ended up abandoned!

I can't find them at the moment but on the 1911 census Henry Garfield is described as "adopted grandson" on the image and not "adopted son".

Thanks so much!
Kath I hadn't noticed Henry was listed as adopted grandson rather than son. So I presume he was adopted by Theophilus & Elinor Aubrey. Definitely looks like the Beatrice I am looking for, thank you Andy! Could definitely be the right John/johnny death record, I guess I need to get the certificate. I presume Mary Ann must of remarried before the 1911 census and binned off the kids?!! Will keep looking.
Thanks again

This looks like the above death?
Weekly Mail - 11th Feb 1905.
DISTRESSING FATALITY IN A PIT NEAR LLANELLY. A sad occurren-ce is reported from the Pontyberem Colliery, near Llanelly. Two smiths, named John Wilkins, of Furnace- terrace, and William Roberts, of Llannon- road, went down the drift in order to repair some pipes. Hours passed without their return, and a search party was organised. It was made up of George Ruston, Joseph Mann, and David Thomas. After proceeding down the drift for a distance of about 200 yards the party found the two men lying near the flues. Wilkins was dead, and Roberts was unconscious, but recovered on being brought to the surface. It is sur- mised t-hat the unfortunate men were suffo- cated by gas. Wilkins was a married man, and a native of Kidwelly. He leaves a widow and five children.

Wow thanks guys, the newspaper report is great. I never would of found that myself.
Andy, I haven't come across a Frances May before. I will have a look into that.
Presumably Mary couldn't support the children after Johnny's death so had to give them up for adoption, just a guess.
Thanks again

Thanks again guys.
I guess adoptions in early 1900's were quite informal? Beatrice is using the adopted name of Morgan on the 1911 census but is back as Wilkins on the 1939 register. Is this common?
The link for newspaper articles is great, gives me another avenue to explore.
Chris, funny you should share the British Badge Forum link. I actually came across this a few months ago, and my partner contacted the poster. Bearing in mind its a UK site, (we live in Tasmania, Australia) and the post was from 3 years ago, incredibly my partner has now been reunited with the watch and medal of his great Grandfather. It was found at the tip over 10 years ago. Not sure how it got there!

Quick question:
Why would a marriage record have 3 people on it?
Looking up a marriage on ancestry, in 1910 there is Griffith Morgans, Jane Edwards and Mary Wilkins. I've come across 4 people on a record but not 3. Why is this?
Sorry if it's a silly question :-P

That is the only way, apart from buying the cert, I am afraid.
I have had a quick look but can't pin them down - there are just too many people with those names in Wales !!!
