rootgatherer Report 16 Jul 2017 23:31

Ian, was Alexander a bachelor when he married please?

From his marriage certificate say his mother was Jeanie Milne m.s. White or just Jeanie White?

He may not have been born in Glasgow. Milne is a much more common surname in Aberdeenshire and Angus. Both of those areas are connected with the fishing industry and would probably have a greater number of fish curers.

While I'm not questioning his parentage, it is also worth considering that illegitimate boys often " made up" a father with the same Christian name as their own.

Hi rootgatherer
Marriage gives m.s White I am beginning to think it is possibly Jessie not Jeanie very hard to make out.
I have not been able to find the possible connection between Mrs Isabella Milne and Alexander Milne they were both living at 312 Bell Street, Glasgow 1930/31

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 17 Jul 2017 07:39

There were quite a few people listed at that address

Alexander, his wife, and Isabella were still there in 1933-1938:

Glasgow Electoral registers:
Alexander Milne
Mrs Isabella Milne
Mrs Nellie Milne

Just going to see if I can spot them there earlier>

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 17 Jul 2017 07:45

OK- it seems looking at the Glasgow Electoral registers that 312 Bell Street was previously 144 Graeme Street.

All the same surnames living there in 1928 including Mrs Isabella Milne and Alexander Milne.
--------------------------

Using 144 Grame Street on the valuation rolls show that Mrs Isabella was there in 1920.
