Lol Dea wasn't wuite thinking that :-D bi thought some of the same names thing between the two sister in laws and the deceased children was v odd . X

Dea Report 16 Aug 2017 12:00

Yes, the forms were often a little confused so you can put away those thoughts of Charles + Sarah having their little bodies 'mummified' and keeping them at home, moving them around the house from chair to chair and then tucking them into bed each night with a good-night kiss. ;-) :-0 :-D

PricklyHolly Report 16 Aug 2017 11:05

As she had died, she should not have actually been named on the record.

Obviously, when checking the form, the enumerator didn't pick up on it.

Emma

Emma Report 16 Aug 2017 10:50

Ok right I'm getting a clearer pic now so because you had to say how many children were from that marriage including ones that died then Rose Hannah was put down mistakenly as living not as just a noted death.

Emma

Emma Report 16 Aug 2017 10:47

Why would they add a dead child to the census tho yes she was 8 months when she died because that what the death cert says.

PricklyHolly

PricklyHolly Report 16 Aug 2017 10:24

I see Rose Hannah's birth was registered in the January quarter.

Death registered in the July quarter.

Rose Hannah Povey in the England, Select Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991
Name: Rose Hannah Povey
Gender: Female
Age: 0
Birth Date: 1908
Burial Date: 1 Oct 1908
Burial Place: Edensor, Stafford, England
FHL Film Number: 1470945
Reference ID: p123 n980

Depending on exactly when she was born (January?)........it's my guess that she was added on the 1911 census as 8 months..........where in fact she was 8 months old when she died.

Emma

Emma Report 16 Aug 2017 10:21

I ve just come across something that says the 1911 census also give details of how many children born to that specific marriage if this is correct where should I be looking.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 16 Aug 2017 10:20

I have seen 1911 census where the father listed all the children born even though some had passed away

Obviously a miss understanding in filling the form in

The enumerator must have queried the entries because the deceased ones are struck through but still able to be read

Dea

Dea Report 16 Aug 2017 10:18

Just to say that I have seem several census's on 1911 where the person has entered details of deceased children(most helpful to us when researching), but I seem to think that the number of those deceased was also entered in the column for children who have died ?

There was nothing in that column on your entry but that could have been a mistake. We have to remember that many people at that time were not very well educated and often misunderstood the instructions on there.

I do note, however, that Sarah Jane + William have entered a number in the column for their dead child.

Just out of interest how was the census taken ie did the census attendant have to physically see every one in the house or did the head of the house just tell them who was there???

Emma

Emma Report 16 Aug 2017 09:17

Think I'm just going to have to leave this one because who knows why a family would state a dead child from 1908 on the 1911census, I ve just done a wide search of //// Rose Povey between 1908-1911 and there's only 4 in the whole country showing up
and one is the 1908 Rose Hannah but nothing for a 1910/11 one as the census 1911 seems to indicate is living with this house hold.

Emma

Emma Report 16 Aug 2017 09:07

I can see the Rose Hannah 1908 who died aged 8 months 1908 ( I have the cert) but just don't get why there is another one named Rose Hannah on the census 1911 aged 8 months but yet can not find any birth record - just odd !!!
