RE: JAMES BERRY (THE INFAMOUS HANGSMAN) born 1852 -1913 can anyone help, i want to know if anyone has any info on James Berry who was the uk number 1 hangsman when he was in office between 1884-1892. He was born in Heckmondwike,Yorkshire (near Bradford), apparently he was the 13th child of 18. His father is called Daniel Berry and his mum is called Mary Ann ?. I do know James married a lady called Sarah Ackroyd and had 2 sons Herbert and Luther. I've done a google search for 'james berry hangsman' and theres lots of links but not much on his family, decendants, brothers, sisters, ancestors etc. I've been told he is somehow related to my mums side but not sure how yet. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you. |

Hi - I am researching my families ancestry & there are berry family members around the same time but I can't yet find a direct connection to this James Berry. Below is information that you may find interesting from the 1861 census = I found this on the website www.genesreunited.co.uk |
