Lewis James McConnachie, I was brought up in Deskford, near Cullen in Scotland. I would be interested to hear from any other McConnachies, or anybody else.

Hello Lewis,
My maternal grandmother was born in Scotland, with ties back to Ireland, however.
She was Mary Elizabeth MacKenzie, b. 1875, Dumbarton; but her mother was Jane Ponsonby (MacKenzie) born 1848 in Greenock, and Jane's mother was Helen Docherty who was born 1827 in County Derry, Ireland. They emigrated to Scotland ca 1840, likely because of the potato famine, although I"m not certain.

Anyways, Helen Docherty (Doherty)'s mother was Mary Diamond born ca 1785 in County Derry, Ireland, and she lived to a good old age in Scotland, so her death certificate gives her parents as John Diamond and Jane McConnachie.

There are not an awful lot of McConnachies in Ireland, at least not with that or similar spellings. There are some with "soundex matches", but her name was definitely McConnachie on the death certificate for her daughter.
Jane McConnachie was likely born abt 1760 (mayber earlier, if Mary was a younger child of several). I'm just doing a rough calculation with that, as it would put Jane (McConnachie) Diamond at age 24 years when Mary, her daughter, was born.

I imagine that her family originated in Scotland, and went over to settle there as many Scots did, but I've no idea when, or who her parents were, etc.

Not likely you can help with this. But I thought it worth "a try", at least.

As you can see, I'm 6 generations removed from Jane McConnachie, and because the records in Ireland are so poor, and sometimes non-existent, chances are I won't find anything on her.

If you have any information that might help, I'd be glad to hear from you.

Best Regards,
Jane Liebzeit
