NODA My grandfather was Yasunosuke Noda. He lived in Brighton around 1909, where he worked as a chef in a seafront hotel. He married Elizabeth Jane Allswqorth, born 1883, Norwood, London, who lived at 8 Devonshire Place, Brighton, when my mother's birth was registered in November 1909. It has been said that he returned to Japan after a few years. Does anyone else with the surname Noda know their origins, as I would love to know more about this name.

Hi Sarah,
My fathers brother married a woman who was descended from Nodas. Her grandfather was the first Japanese man to settle in New Zealand. There was a documentary on this subject some years ago here but I haven't seen it. I have no idea how common a name Noda was in Japan. The genealogical details are on my ancestry.com tree. If you would like to see this please send me an email address to [email protected] and I will send you a link.

Regards,

Phil McArthur,
