Hi My brother has traced back our family tree.My dad was a Garrity from Glasgow,so was his father, Patrick Garrity.but the family comes from the west coast of Ireland..The name was originally Heraughty, and they came from an island of the West Coast of Ireland called Inishmurray Island, which is now un-inhabited,but still possible to visit. There is a book published about Inishmurray Island by Dr.Patrick Heraughty, who I believe is still alive. My brother visited him at a residential home in Dublin a few years ago,and he remembers the "Garritys" well.My father came from a big family of about 13,so possibly a lot of the Garritys in the Glasgow region could be related to us.Thought this might throw some light onto the name Garrity.
