John Brayshay was my mother's father. My maternal grandmother was married three times. First to an army officer who went to India. She went with him and bore him two children. I do not know his name, nor do I know her maiden name. Her christian name may have been Elizabeth, I think her mother's christian name was Arabella. He and the two children died there, and she returned to Yorkshire where she married her second husband, a man called Boxall. She bore him two daughters, Caroline and Elaine around 1897 -1899 ish Her second husband died and she then married her third husband, John Brayshay and bore another daughter, Winifred (my mother) in Harrogate on 7th June 1908. John Brayshay died when my mother was 6 years old. Elaine Boxall died of T.B. when quite young. My mother and aunt had nephew called Donald Wilkinson but I don't know which side he came from. He may have been Elaine's son. My maternal grandmother, Elizabeth? Brayshay died in the early 1940s.(1943?) I should very much like to learn more about my maternal roots. My maternal grandmother's daughter Caroline Boxall married twice. Caroline's first husband was a man whose surname was Midgely. Caroline and John Midgley had a daughter called Marguerite (Greta) Midgely, who remained unmarried. My aunt then married John Fowler. My aunt Caroline died around 1977. John later on. They lived in Bramhall, Stockport, Cheshire where Greta remained until her death. Greta became a consultant anaesthetist and died on 29th March 2005 She was just over 80. The Rev. Alan J Bell of St Georges Vicary, 7 Corbar Road, Stockport Cheshire SK2 6EP took the funeral service..Greta has a cousin called Donald Wilkinson, who may be dead by now . He had three sons one of whom died. My grandmother and grandfather (Brayshay) lived in a house called Aspen Ing in Harrogate. My grandfather may have had something to do with horses & carriages. My grandmother continued to live there for some time after his death with her three daughters whom she supported by becoming a librarian. I am anxious to find out as much as I can about my mother's roots, and hope the above information will be helpful.
