Hello Christine
I know it is 12 months almost since you posted your help info. I am interested in John Johnson. I know nothing of him beforet he married here in Australia in 1939 to Frances McCarthy. I believe he came from Ireland. He could be your John. Do you have more info on him. Kind regards. Irene

Hi there
I am sure you are not rubbish at this family tree business, it takes time.
On GR there are Birth/Marriage/Death register
1837 to 1983 then 1984 to 2004.
Look on the records for 1984-2004/5 there is birth/death and marriages.I am sure it will be very helpful.

If you can't find anything go into the census 1901, and then 1891 for the older relatives.

The info you need is the name and surname
dob if you can, and place of birth
date of death if you know they died.

There is a help board on Genes, you can always send a message to Genes and ask then for a basic guide to help you as you are a beginner (so to speak, sorry it is to help you) and they will send you an email with this basic info on a step to step guide if you like. I have been on this site a year and also belong to Ancestry. I now have 326 relations, I am doing 5 trees on one big tree.
It took me a while to get used to it, but you will win in the end.

If you get stuck just send me a message.

I am called Valerie.

Good luck

Christine
