Trying to find Agate

I am trying to trace the ancestry of Thomas Agate, probably born between 1720 and 1740 and was a farmer at Cowfold, Sussex. In 1771 he fathered John Walder, the son of Elizabeth Walder (born about 1739, died 1816 buried at Bolney, Sussex), and was the subject of a Bastardy Bond in 1771. In 1793 Thomas Agate bequeathed £25 to John's first child, Thomas Standen Walder. I have not been able to trace back the ancestry either of Thomas Agate or Elizabeth Walder. Any information would be much appreciated.
