Oh crumbs!!! I'm not getting anywhere with the marriage search I am back to 1844 so far. I have not got Ann Edge junior on either 1851 or 1861 Have not got ann and william edge either really confused about the France children Lynn

Jane Report 28 Mar 2006 21:35

Margaret, no, not yet. if i remember rightly i think she was born too late for 1851, but can't find her at all in 1861, but knowing our luck she'll probably have a completely different surname too by then !!!!!

Lynn, have you got Ann & William in 1871 onwards? Jx

Mags & Nicky Report 28 Mar 2006 21:29

Have you got Ann Edge junior on either 1851 or 1861 yet? It is confusing! I wonder if they never actually married, and she just took on William's surname? Did Ann senior die, and then he married Hannah?

Lynn

Lynn Report 28 Mar 2006 21:17

I was thinking the same that George Walker is illegitimate, as you say previous names are usually mentioned. My Ann Edge jnr gets married by the 1871 census. The children are then............ George Walker b 1847 Frodsham, Cheshire (possibly illegitimate ?) Elizabeth France, b 1848, Grindleton, Cheshire My Ann Edge jnr b 1851 Hatherton, Nantwich, Cheshire Magaret France 1851, Grindley, Cheshire (twin? same year????) Hannah France b 1853, Grindley, Cheshire John Edge, b1857, Grindley, Cheshire Mary Edge b 1859, Tunstall, Staffordshire. This is confusing

mmmm, this one has really got me !! i think if she was Mrs France in between it should say that too. regarding that 1861, so Ann jnr was missing, unless she was known by another name !! there are 3 France children, but the 1 Walker child is born the same year and same place as the one in 1851. is it possible he was illegitimate? did he turn up in 1871? i haven't seen that entry yet. still working on it, the little hamsters in my head are on overtime tonight !!

Lynn

Lynn Report 28 Mar 2006 20:48

Lynn

Lynn Report 28 Mar 2006 20:47

This is her record from the IGI I think Ann <Edge> Event(s): Christening: 30 OCT 1851 Wybunbury, Cheshire, England Parents: Father: William Edge Family Mother: Ann

Lynn

Lynn Report 28 Mar 2006 20:37

Her birth cert of Ann junior, daughter of Ann(Hannah) and William is in september 1851 and I have this thanks, Lynn

Lynn

Lynn Report 28 Mar 2006 20:35

Right, so if we look at the 1861 census then. This is saying that Hannah (aka ann) had relations with a Mr France and a Mr Walker before My William Edge (3rd husband) She has been busy then. This means her marriage to William Edge could be under her other name France or her maiden name (unknown). I will do a search on France now, There is a move from cheshire to Staffordshire, so possibly the marriage is in these two boroughs Lynn

Interesting, with George Walker prev Edge!! Must be same family. Where is Ann though? Do you think she was also born Walker? George was perhaps illegitimate.

Marriages Mar 1857 ----------------------------- Edge William Whitchurch 6a 950 France Hannah Whitchurch 6a 950 was hoping this was before 1851. my theory was that Hannah / Ann maiden name was Walker, married Mr France , then William Edge, explaining why we can't find marriage as Ann Walker

Thanks kate, I am on the case and am going quarter by Quarter. Searched 1851-1847 no matches so far. Lynn

Kate Report 28 Mar 2006 19:55

Can't see them on Cheshire BMD. Don't forget that somebody could be born in 1851 to parents who got married before the start of civil registration, though if the family on the 1851 is correct and if they weren't lying about their ages this is unlikely in this case. Mind you, I have seen some people whose ages were about 15 years out, so it is possible! If you haven't been through the GRO marriage indexes quarter by quarter yet it is certainly worth a try. Look for William Edge and whenever you find one see if there is a matching Ann Walker. Start with the quarter when their daughter whose birth cert you have was born and work backwards from there (don't assume they would have married before the birth of one of the other children on the 1851 because they could have a different mother.) If you don't find their marriage all the way back to 1837 then they could have married after the child was born, or not at all, or they could have married before the start of civil registration in which case you would need to search parish records. Happy hunting! Kate.
