Thanks a lot Michael - I appreciate you help and the fact that you bothered to contact me to remind me of the look up I'd requested, otherwise I might have overlooked it and given up on Thomas. I went away a few days later and forgot to check when I got back - many apologies. It is really helpful info for me. Hope your exams went well. Thanks again Kate

Thanks for the tip Betty, I shouldn't assume that people read a thread before replying to it. I aim to be up to date within a few days so feel free to post your request after that. And another thing... GENERAL NOTE TO ANYONE WHO REQUESTS LOOK-UPS: once I've done the look-up for you, please at least acknowledge it. I know most of you do, but some haven't and I don't like to think that I'm wasting my time finding information that those who requested it aren't going to bother to look at. Michael

Jane - sorry, post-1910 isn't very well covered by FreeBMD, and with two common names and no date searching the index images would be a nightmare. Good luck if you want to try it. Michael

Susan - no, you don't get any further info on BMD certs from Ancestry, you have to order them from the GRO (www.gro.gov.uk). Knowing the reference makes it cheaper (£7 rather than £10). As far as I know I am not your brother!

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner I did mean Harry Boulton Harris born 1853 marrying Agnes Mead born 1864. Their first born was in 1883 so it must be around that time I believe they married in Kent. Sorry again for the delay ruth

Hi Michael If you could have a a quick look just to confirm something for me I'd be really grateful. Please would you look for a Thomas Smart b1808 ish in Thornton Steward Yorks in the 1861 census. I only have details of his birth/christening. and he can't be found in 1851 or in his home village in 1841 so I think it likely that he didn't live very long. I'd just like to double check to see if he was around in 1861. Many thanks Kate

Hi Michael, Could I ask for an 1861 census look up for this family please. The family are George Edmund Thomas Head, Eliza Thomas Wife and one son that I know of William George Thomas born 1857 Saint Pancras, London, Middlesex. I know this is a bit vague but I have no other details this is all I have from William George's birth certificate. Many thanks Kim

Michael Report 4 Apr 2006 17:37

Ruth - do you mean 1853? Someone born 1953 wouldn't show up on many early censuses!

Karen Report 3 Apr 2006 23:07

Hi Michael, I've lost the copies I took of some of censuses. Could you let me have the details of the following - I'm sure I've found them in the past so hopefully I have enough details not to prove too tricky :-) Alfred Kember (born 1863 Kent) married to Elizabeth Clara (also 1863 but I think has some dodgy ages) - Kent 1891 and 1901 (with son Percy in 1901 I think) Albert Childs (born 1858 Kent) married to Edith (also 1858 Kent). Daughter Edith (1885 Kent) - 1891 Surrey and 1901 (back in Kent with son, Albert). Thomas Uings (born 1858 Kent) and married to Ellen (also 1858 Kent) - Kent 1891 and 1901 (though I think 1891 was mistranscribed as Kings or Wings). The children were William, Mary Ellen, Esther, Edith, Elizabeth, Leonard and Rose. I'd appreciate any you have time to find! Thank you

Ellen, Sorry, Ancestry has very few records for Scotland, so the chances of finding what you're looking for are pretty remote. Michael
