Which version of the name appears on 1871, 1881, 1891? And does his birthplace remain constant on all of them? Reg

Thanks georgina Reg - I haven't been able to find either name variants on any other census with the birth area of Clapton. The only one I can pinpoint him on is the 1901 as he was married by then.

Is it Clapton or Clapham? They're both in London, but in different areas!

Georgina

Georgina Report 21 Feb 2006 00:08

Richard I just looked at the image for the 1901 census and it actually says William W not William A Taylor. I will see if I can find him in earlier census's. Georgina.

Emma Report 21 Feb 2006 00:10

As far as i can tell it is definitely clapton. Thanks for all your help georgina

Andrew

Andrew Report 21 Feb 2006 00:13

If it's Clapton, then the registration district would be West Ham... assuming that his birth was registered where he thought he was born!

Richard I think this is William in 1891 living with his brother.. George A Taylor abt 1885 Clapton, Middlesex, England Son Hackney London Jane Taylor abt 1862 Waltham, Essex, England Wife Hackney London John Taylor abt 1861 Clapton, Middlesex, England Head Hackney London John W Taylor abt 1883 Clapton, Middlesex, England Son Hackney London William W Taylor abt 1871 Stepney, Middlesex, England Brother Hackney London Source information: RG12/183 Registration district: Hackney Sub registration district: Stamford Hill ED, institution, or vessel: 11 Folio: 148 Page: 7 (click to see others on page) GSU Number: 6095293 On this census William's occupation is Drug Compounder and on the 1901 census he makes capsules for drugs. Do you have the marriage certificate? If you do what address did they marry from. Georgina.

As the census only says about 1869 i've search surrounding years, the closest match i can come up with is - Walter William Taylor dec 1870 St Georges Hanover Square.
