1871 census Wigan look up please James Mason

Glyn, The best way to confirm (one way or another) whether James was born in Wigan would be to write to the Registry Office and ask them to do a 5-year search. There may be several births registered in the name James Mason but your search will be narrowed down because you have a middle name. Good luck with your searches. |

May be this is why I can't find James may be he was not born Wigan. Thomas & Agnes say birth Wigan on 1881 census but born in Cambridgeshire. Could be his aunt & uncle will look again on free bmd to see if I can find birth |

Hi Annete JUst wondering if it would be possible to find this family on the 1871 census. they lived next door to James at beech cottage on 1881 census so possible some relation although have son born 1865 may live close to on 1871 census. Glyn, I have in the past phoned a Registry Office to check certain details before ordering a marriage/birth certificate e.g. whether a Father's name was listed or not. Obviously they can't give you any names but its worth a try. Very often the witnesses of a marriage turn out to be siblings of the bride/groom (I have a few of these), which can help when checking the census records. Good luck |

HI Annette just found that James living with elder brother Robert on 1881 census so not him I'm afraid but thanks for your help. Don't think I'm going to find him. |

Glyn, At the top of the census page it reads: Manchester Rd, Keble Street. This family is at No.1 My guess is No. 1 Keble St (Keble Street is off Manchester Rd, Ince - Manchester Rd is the main road running from Ince into Wigan) Occupation of James (Father) looks like Grocer All the family born Wigan, Lancs |
