I am looking to order a birth certificate for an Elizabeth Dawson born about 1865 in what was at the time the Chester area. Due to the amount of possibles at that time ,and the incorrect information often given, i know that i will have to order several to get the correct one. To date i have identified 2 possibles on the Cheshire Bmd site, but their reference numbers appear different to the Gro references which i prefer to order from. The 2 possibles and i know that there may be others, are; Sub District............Registers At....................References.............Year...... Tattenhall...............Cheshire West...............TAT/10/99.................1866.... Eastham.................Cheshire West...............EAS/17/19................1867.. Cheshire West is i beleive the district that Chester was registered under. Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards Mike

This is the 2nd one... Birth Sep 1867 Dawson Elizabeth Wirral.8a 395 and the 1st one.... Birth Dec 1866 Dawson Elizabeth Great Boughton.8a 306 Do you have her in 1871? That might help you work out which one is her.

Hi Georgina, I do Know her siblings and parents i believe ,but they are born all over,On census 1881 and 1891 she states her birthplace as Chester ,and on her marriage cert in 1884 her father is a Butcher. Her Father is also a Butcher on the 1881 and 1861 census .Her siblings that i know of are; Sarah born abt 1865 Castleton,Lancs, Clara born abt 1872 ,Manchester,Lancs. Forence born abt 1875 Barrow in Furness, Lancs. Alice born abt 1877 Barrow in Furness ,Lancs. Samuel Dawson born abt 1879 Barrow in Furness ,Lancs. Frank Dawson born abt 1881 Barrow in Furness Lancs. To date i have had no success locating them on the 1871 Regards Mike

Hi Helen, To be honest as the bounderies of Chester today are so different to what they were in the 1860's i wouldn't know which to go for. Elizabeth has always stated her place of birth as Chester Thank you very much for the lookup Regards Mike

I found the Tattenhall one - her father is William. Can't see the other though (might be her!)

Do you know when and where Samuel married Alice? Seems a bit young to be Sarah and Elizabeths mother lol oh, n/m - it's wrong in 1881.

Mike this is the 1881 census (for reference) this is obviously Samuels 2nd marriage because his wife is only 24. If Elizabeth was born in 1865 was she Sarah's Twin because Sarah was born about 1865? Tracy Samuels name is from the 1884 marriage certificate and that is also the correct Elizabeth you have on the 1881 in Manchester. Helen if you view the image on the 1881 you will she that alice's age has been mistranscribed Regards Mike

I'm inclined to think that they've been missed off 1871. I can't find any of them at all. I've looked under all names, dobs, and pobs. Such a shame Clara wasn't born the year before! lol

Tracy I have looked at every Samuel born within 5 years of 1839 on the 1871 census and none are Butchers so I agree with you they must have been missed or mistranscribed. Georgina.

Tracy did they have Trade directories in the 1860's and 1870's,if so would i not possibly be able to locate the whereabouts of Samuel in them at the time of Elizabeths birth and the 1871 census Regards Mike

Mike if you think Alice is Samuels first wife maybe Sarah & Elizabeth were Sarah's from a previous marriage and Samuel gave them his name? Maybe Elizabeth is Sarah and decided to Change her name? Georgina.
