A very minor one! You must get ancestry sub! Check out the spelling of the addresses, Temple Combe in one of them is a beauty: Lemplecaube In one of the census your family is actually spelt different ways on one page - did you not notice? We are talking a very long time ago when many people on the census we look at dont even know how to spell their names. Believe me, yours is a very minor difference. Ive had Horstead spelt Horstus, Hosted, Hastead, Horsehead - so count yourself lucky just to lose one z! Bed now, good night.

The only one to go with is ancestry - there is nothing to compare with it and at only £56 a year it is an absolute bargain - 24/7 coverage, all the images, plus lots more. If you get it you will soon learn that you are fortunate just to get a mistranscription of one letter! The enumerators collected the data (as heard, much of the time), returned the forms to the office and then someone else collated and rewrote them - hence so many mistranscriptions. Then modern transcribers type them out and you get more mistranscriptions!

i didnt realize it was that cheap.Thats something i will definatly look at getting,As trying to find various members of the family are proving a bit tricky.you start off with one name and end up somewhere else.I can see how it takes people years to trace thier family trees.

If you sign up to the Lost Cousins website (free) you can get 20% off an ancestry sub at the moment. The other good site at about a fiver for 50 look ups is familyrelatives.org You can put in a name and a time span and bring up every match from 1866-1920 for births, marriages and deaths. I guess you must already know about familysearch.org which is free? and freebmd which is not complete but is free and did have your gran and grandads births.
