I just have to ask... In 1866, Marys father is George. In 1873, it's Thomas. You sure it's the same person? lol

Well Kate, Jonathan and who else cares to put in some advice!! I have just been onto the register office at Durham... No No No........ The Robert Moore and Mary A Heslop marriage is not the right one.. She is not a widow.. she does not Give Thomas or George Winroe //w for her fathers name.... Maureen with less hair than I had.... Pulling it out bit by bit Argggghhhhhhhh

Kate Report 21 Sep 2005 23:05

Maureen, don't forget she gave her father's name as George when she married Thomas Wignall, so who knows what father's name she may have given when she married Mr. Moore?! Kate.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but I have been to Library. So Apologies.. Yes Jonathan I have come across that marriage today.. would'nt care but I had checked Durham website for that marriage.. Hrmmm Kate..... Talk about confusing.. I think I maybe should put her in a box and leave her in there Lol.. Seal it up and bury her and all the paperwork that goes with her ...Lol Oh My.. So that at least rules out an 1870-1 Death for William Heslop.. Makes me wonder if she has been a Mary Ann Cotton... Lol. At least 3 marriages in 7 years.. married in October 1866 William Heslop married in 1868 Robert Moore married in 1873 Thomas Wignall Where on earth do I go from here.. I'll give the register office a ring and see if they will pull out that book and see if they will tell me if this Mary A Heslop is Widow, with father Thomas... Durham Central are not too accomadating with that sort of search.. Thanks so much Kate for the rest of the info on Mary Ann. Will have a trawl through and see whats what. I can always keep it for future reference see if I can get past this... I maybe should start to look outside the box.... or from a different Angle.. Thanks Johnathon.. Thanks again Kate.. She's playing very hard to get.... Keeping an open mind

I checked those Teversall Winrows out at the Notts Archives, and I hope you don't mind me saying that apart from the discrepancy in age, they look just like I would expect Mary Ann's family to be - totally confusing!!! Baptism at Teversall church 11th June 1837 - Mary Ann, Dr. of Thomas and Sarah Winrow, abode Fackley Lane, occupation labourer. Can't find a marriage between Thomas and Sarah at Teversall. 1841 census Fackley Lane, Teversall: Sarah Winrow 24 (?) Seamstress Y Ann Do 4 Y George Do 2 Y No Thomas Winrow in Teversall. Can't find George's baptism. There is a baptism at Teversall 7th March 1842 of Hannah Winrow, illegitimate daughter of Sarah Winrow, abode Teversal Fackley Lane, occupation labourer's wife. The 1851 census of Teversall has this entry for Fackley Lane: Ann Spittlehouse Head Widow Stocking Seamer NottsTeversall Mary Ann Winrow Granddaughter 13 Do Do Ruth Temperton Granddaughter 3 Derbys Halt Hucknall Sorry I forgot to note down Ann's age but I think it was 60 or 61. There was a marriage at Teversall 7th Aug 1821 between John Spittlehouse widower and Ann Cupit spinster, witnesses James Cupit and Sarah Hickton. I couldn't find a baptism for a Sarah Spittlehouse or Cupit, though. Do you see what I mean? Just like looking for Sarah Jane, isn't it? I'm sorry to say that as I'm sure you know, Winrow is one of those names that always gets mistranscribed - for example, Mary Ann's name on the 1851 above was listed as Winson on the Nottinghamshire Family History Society Index. Doesn't help, does it? Anyway, if this is her family, it is going to take you a long time to unravel it all!! Kate.

Maureen, I had a look on British Origins for the 1841. I agree the birthdate is way out, but as she knocked years off her age on later censuses (her age goes from 38 in 1881 to 44 in 1891), perhaps she knocked some years off when she married William Heslop so she would be younger than him instead of older? That marriage that Johnathan found between Robert Moore and Mary A. Heslop looks good! I'm just having a look to see if it helps with the 1871... in the meantime, how about this death: Deaths Jun 1871 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Moore Robert 27 Stockton 10a 52 Kate.

Kate Report 20 Sep 2005 19:21

Yes... in 1841 there is a Sarah Winrow at Teversall with 2 children Ann age 4 and George age 2. This is looking promising! Kate.
