Christine - re Shergold I've checked in Wymondley (Much & Little) but no sign of them there. Hitchin is a 200 pager, so I'll go through it a bit at a time. Bear with me and keep checking back. Thanks for the suggestion of Arkley - but I can't find that either. It's hard as I can only search for the parish and some of these villages seem to be incorporated into the parish but are not mentioned in the searchable index. I only stumbled across London Colney by chance for example when looking in Shenley. Karen

Christine Report 21 Sep 2005 00:23

Thanks for your continued efforts. Have now found that Sarah Shergold was married to Paul Weston Shergold born in Wiltshire 1809. He was a farmer in 1861 Strange thing is that IGI has an entry for c8 Shergolds christened in Hitchin (St Marys) in latter part of 1780/90s. But no sign of them! (Arkley - Barnet, Borehamwood)

Christine - I'll see if I can find St Mary part of Hitchin as a starting poing, might be there, you never know! Looked up Ardeley and found it is also known as Yardeley. The Yardley I have on CD is in the same group of parishes so I think that is it - why do they give it two names - grrr! Karen

Hi Karen Thank you very much for looking and finding the Rymill's for me. As they were at the same address 1841/1861/1871, they must have been there in 1851 too. (well....odds are looking good for it) (This family deserve a prize for staying in the same place for 40 years...unlike my others! Thanks again Sarah

Hi i am looking for Carters in Hertfordshire, not sure what part. I am looking for Henry Carter born about 1800 had a son Named John Carter in 1832 hope you can help Thanks Lynn

KarenInScotland

KarenInScotland Report 27 Sep 2005 23:15

Lynn - I'm sorry but the 1841 is not indexed so I have to look at each individual page, therefore I need a parish to narrow down the search - it would take me years to look at the whole of Hertfordshire! Jill - I will have a look for you, but the 1841 does not give place of birth, just whether they were born in the county or if they were born in foreign parts.
