I have just recieved a birth certificate for my Great Grandfather John Darlington, born 7th nov 1855 . his mother was Mary Darlington born 1828 Warrington, there was no father's name. Under her name it says formerly Taburn, address Tups Row St Helens. Could that be another married name? or the fathers? Could someone kindly look up the 41/51 census for me? I have her on the 1861 census as being married to Joseph Birchall Sutton St Helens. Hope someone can help. thanks Margaret.

Hi Georgina, I sent for it , none of his parents were on it. That was why I sent for his birth certificate, it came back with his mother's name , no father. thanks Margaret

Have you tried going at it from the marriage certificate angle. That 'usually' has the name of the father on, but who knows it may give the mothers instead. Do you have the name of his wife or a marriage date or place?

Hi Gloria, What I have so far , John darlington born 1855 married to Alice Mee 1876 March Prescot lived in St Helens I have them on 71/81/91/1901 census. on 61 census . his mother Mary Darlington was married to Joseph Birchall , Mary was born 1828 in Warrington. the marrage certificate of John Darlington has no parents John Darlington's birth certificate , says Mother maiden name Mary Darlington no father, I have looked on Ancestry , her birth is to early for free bmd and 1837. I am wondering where she was in 51. He must be illegitimate. thanks Margaret

Margaret There's no Mary Darlington or Mary Taburn on the name index. There's no Tups Row on the 1851 street index. Which parish is it in? Lou

Hi Margaret Nothing I'm afraid! I've searched the whole of St Helens, including Parr, Sutton and Eccleston...I lost count after about 3000 pages! Not one Darlington and only one Taburn family but not with a Mary or anyone female born in Warrington. So she's either still in Warrington which is huge and way too big to search without an idea of where or, if she was unmarried and in service, realistically she could be anywhere! Sorry I couldn't be more help Lou

Thanks Lou, Sankey Bridge Warrington is where she was born. I just remembered that, it was on one of the other census. Which part of Lancs are you from? Margaret

Hi Margaret When my eyes have had a rest I'll check Sankey Bridge in Warrington for you but not sure whether it will be tonight...I'm drowning in paperwork from the office! I'm in a little village between Oldham and the Yorkshire border....very pretty but lots of hills! Lou

You can get them from places like Stepping Stones and S & N Genealogy. Just google both and you should find the info you need! Will get back to you over the weekend with the Warrington stuff Lou

Hi Margaret, I've checked 1841 Great Sankey and she is not there Barbara

Barbara You're an angel! So if she's not there in 41, its unlikely she's there in 51. Think I'll hold off trawling it until Margaret has any more info! Lou
