Found the marriage I think, John Darlington married Alice Mee 1876, March Quarter, Prescot Lanc's. volume 8b, page 851. Got it off ancestry. You can go to GRO and order a certificate which will give you the fathers. Hope this is of help. gloria

Sorry Margaret, seems you already have the marriage certificate.

Hi Margaret I'm afraid my ONLY suggestion at the moment is to try and locate Mary's baptism in Warrington. At least that will give you her parents who we can then look for on the 41. You might even find she wasn't born in Great Sankey but maybe lived there when she was very small and assumed that she was Lou

Hi, Are you sure it reads Taburn and not Taberner ? I have found a Mary Taberner 16 Farm Servant to Esther Robinson farmer at Warrington Road Rainhill. HO107/517/2 Folio 12 Apart from that she is not in Rainhill either. Barbara

Hi Barbara, It has her name as Mary Darlington, then underneath it, formerly Taburn. It could be spelled different. margaret

Hi Margaret, I've got the same problem. I think you have to look at the parish records now.Try and find out who holds the parish records for your area and go from there. Try posting a message asking where to look for parish records. Sorry I'm not much help - I'm learning as I go along Barbara

Hi Margaret Warrington has its own archives although WHERE in Warrington I couldn't tell you. There are a few members on the boards from the area so if you post a message I'm sure someone will help you out. Otherwise you could try googling Warrington archives and then emailing them to see whether they offer a search service Lou

Hi Lou, there was another thread about baptisim's, recommended googling Hugh Wallis There are a few Mary Darlingtons born around the 1828/29 from Warrington, thing is which one is it? It's a hit or a miss when you are not sure. Regards Margaret

Hi Margaret I agree and its quite possible that not all the churches in Warrington have had their records filmed so there may be other Mary's baptised at other churches that you can't find out about online. I honestly don't know what to suggest. Do you have her marriage certificate to Joseph? That should give her father's name so you could try matching some of the baptisms to a Mary with a father called ******* Lou

Do you think it would be on there, as I sent for John Darlington's marrage certificate in the hope that his parents were there. Not even Mary's name was on it. I get the the sneaky feeling that she was thrown out of the family. will keep looking tho. Regards Margaret

Lou How do you navigate this site? Do they give you the records on line? every time I click on the the record I want , it tells you something else, and does not give you any information I want. Any advice to a demented fart. Maggie

If Mary wasn't illegitimate then her father should be named on the marriage certificate You'll need to order the cert to get the information but if there is no father stated on it, then it hints that maybe she was illegitimate too. It narrows down your search for a baptism cos it means you're looking for one that only names the mother! Lou

Hi Lou, I was speaking to one of my cousins who lives in St Helens, she went to the library, and was asking about old maps. She mentioned Tups Row, the librarian said it was a nick name for the street, and would look the information out for her, so will have it by Wednesday. Hopefully it might help. Margaret
