Thanks Johnathon, I would like to find her marriage to Darlington when and where, she couldn't have been married to him long as she had my G Grandfather in Nov 55 then married to Birchall 6mths later. Grateful for your help. Margaret

Hi Margaret I've had a look on Cheshire BMD and found this Mary Tabron married William Darlington at Warrington St Paul's Church in 1850 Unfortunately it doesn't say which month so you'll need to check all 4 qtrs of 1850 on 1837online to find out when it was and to get the reference to order the certificate. Margaret You need to get William and Mary's marriage certificate. It wont name his mother but his father's name should be on there and how old he was Given that they married at the end of 1850, they'll hopefully still be at the same address, or in the same area, for the 1851 census which will give you their birthplaces Lou

Depending on when William died, he might not have been John's father but Mary was still called Darlington which is why John was given that as his surname BUT William isn't named on the certificate! There's no reason to think that William's father wont be named on his marriage cert!
