Hi Gemma/Lou I found this old thread while trying to find William Henry Baker in India (he was an engineer) believed to have been born c. 1850-55 married Helena Bourke. Was wondering if it might be the same person?

Hi Gemma, so sorry taking time to get back to you, had family crisis. Unfortunatley I don't think that's my family as William was only there for a short period and his son William although born there came back to England and lived his life here with his parents and siblings. Interesting to read it was your Baker line though, and sad that we are not connected. I think my William Snr had a fling out there and produced 2 sons, and brought or sent the children back to England to be brought up by his wife as her own sons. Never mind, thanks for looking, Lou

Thanks for the offer, Gemma. I'm interested in the marriage of Amelia Josephine Smith in 1885 which you mention here. Also interested in anything on her parents - Alexander Thomas Smith and wife (possibly Louisa). I think Alexander may have died mid 1870's -mid 1880's, but don't know for sure! Thanks Ann
