I went on this evening. I had paid for 60 units by credit card but the money hasn't been taken. Tonight I have another 60 credits so I don't know what is going on.

Hi All I too had a problem with the purchase of units, they rectified it and gave me extra units. If the whole of the indexes were the same as the 1866 to 1920 it would be a fantastic site. Remember if you are using the other years it will not list your names, only the pages thay may contain that name, I too was confused with this in the beginning. So my findings, I use 1837 online for years other than 1866 to 1920 and family relatives for 1866-1920. Once the site is up and running properly with all images and names fully searchable it will be a great site. I've had no timeout problems and been on for at least 20 minutes. Regards Christina

I think it is pretty good. Found lots of extra relations and put names to partners. Have bought some credits and got twenty minutes. Will definitely go there again

Maria, have you got DjVu downloaded? If not there is a link at the bottom of the site's homepage. Sue:-)

Has anyone had problems in looking at the images on familyrelatives. I've found some info I've been looking for, for ages now, but any image I go to look at is blank. Maria

It is fully transcribed. Transcribed means that they have had to list the indexes themselves, so human error is easily done and because of this mistranscriptions can occur. there is no other site that offers a full name search with exact matches for the years in question and the fact that the site plans to have it for all other years soon, is even better. 1837 is great if you know exactly what year the event took place. If you don't it then can cost a fortune. I have spend over a 100 pounds on that site and could not find what I wanted several times. Then family relatiives comes online, i buy 10 pounds worth of credit and find several events I was looking for literally in seconds. So give it a chance, yes it has had some teething problems, but I personally think this is one of the best sites released in the last year for English records.

I have been on this site - taken all the searches I wanted for all the timeframes, then cut and pasted results on to Word documents and saved to PC .... will look up and confirm actual info at a later date! Found it v. useful to have the link through to 1920 on the earlier search! S:>

I have to say I did find 2 death records on there last night and a possible couple of marriages and births but it is very hit and miss and such a performance to look at things and they keep telling you to refresh.

I have no opinion at present as I have yet been able to get on the site, all it ever does is SESSION TIMED OUT. I have contacted Family Relatives and all they do is give me a new password and as soon as I get back on, guess what, SESSION TIMED OUT I wont bother at the moment, perhaps give it a week or so. Susan, I get the year of event with out viewing the image of the gro index. It depends what years you are searching, if you are searching between 1921 - 1983, then the names that come up are the first and last person on the page of the gro index as it is not full name transcribed yet, and you are not charged anything for viewing this. You are then charge 2 credits for viewing the gro index. If you search any other years, then you can search by full name getting exact matches, with ALL details for 2 credits without having to view the original gro index page which cost 4 credits. regards, Siobhan

I am in the same loop as Kathryn - I sent them and email 2 days ago to complain (no reply) and I have just sent them another one - are we alone in this loop????

Heather

Heather Report 22 Jan 2005 18:21

I have just looked at "my account" details and find they have charged me twice. Check out your accounts. Plus I found nothing of use - and kept getting kicked off the site half way through trawling refs.

CelticShiv Report 22 Jan 2005 18:19

Susan, there is really no need to view the index which uses 4 index, cos it is exactly the same as the image shown in the transcribed index, and that costs of 2 units. It is definately much cheaper than 1837. As for people getting free credits, it may be a incentive to people due to the few teething problems the site had on it's launch. I know alot of people who have used the card details and have had problems, have then been given double credits to make up for the problem. I love this site.

Ive only had a go this morning. Took quite a lot of tries to buy units. Not sure if they have credited me with double or if Ive paid double now. Few teething probs I think I found one marriage, wrote down the ref got thrown off, entered the details again to check ref and was told 0 results????
