Sarah - what a wonderful offer. Before I give details, do you know if you will have access to the 1861 Census for Aston, Birmingham? I couldn't see it on your list, so probably not. :-( Thank you! Carole

Colette Report 6 Jan 2005 17:27

Hi Sarah dont surpose you could get you're hands on Stoneleigh Burials could you. PRATT pre 1844 i have 4 x Grt Grandad Joseph Pratts burial record in 1844, and his son my 3 x Grt Grandad Joseph Pratt in the 1850's along with his wife Mary in the 1870's all in St Mary's Stoneleigh. I am trying to find Joseph Pratt the elders wife Ann Pratt's burial record she was dead by 1841 Joseph was 80 yrs old then. I hit this brickwall over a year ago now i have even been to Stoneleigh and trampled the graveyard with no luck frustrating when you know they are buried there. If you can see these records and can find any Pratt's pre 1844 i would be so gratful. I have never found a baptism record for old Joseph and as he had 5 daughters and one son born last he named him Joseph after himself so no clue to who his parents were. Thank You Colette in Southport xx

Colette - I'm sorry but when I last went to the library a couple of months ago I made a complete list of the parish records they held and Stoneleigh wasn't one of them. I only have access to the parish records outlined at the top.

Thanks for your kind offer Susie, but it is the 1861 I need. My 3 X great grandparents had a child in Aston in 1860 and then another in Plaistow, Essex in 1862. I am trying to establish when they moved to Essex - before or after the 1861 Census. Sarah, thank you for checking in advance. Fingers crossed...

Ok I'm going to go to the library shortly and see if they have a free machine. Is there anyone else who wants to send a lookup before I go? Remember the list of what I can do is right at the top and I will post results on this topic. Keep an eye out :)

Marcie - I live round the corner from the local library so if I hadn't caught it before I went out I could have done it another day. Thats why it doesn't really matter when people post as I can usually find time to do lookups once a week. Ann - My local library certainly doesn't have any Birmingham parish records. I'm going to see if they have any odd bits of Birmingham census lying around today but can give no guarantees.

Will do this in order (well sort of :) ) Sheila Roberts - The good news is I've found various bits and pieces for you (sorry I do get a little carried away) First of all Long Lawford records start around 1945 so aren't really of much use to you. In the end I went looking to see what churches were nearby and luckily chose the right one from the start! Second of all, I don't know if you've come across the convention for using fs or f instead of ss? Also spelling wasn't up to much in those days so you may choose to reject the following records, but here goes anyway :) Baptisms from Newbold on Avon parish records Mar 1815 - Jan 1857 (Date, child's forename, parent's forenames, surname, residence, father's occupation) 22nd August 1830 Charlotte, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer 9th October 1831 William, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer 5th February 1834 Mary Ann, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer 24th May 1835 Sarah, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer 25th June 1837 John, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer 11th November 1838 Thomas, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer 24th January 1841 James, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer 4th December 1844 Joseph, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer 1849 (seem to be missing the full date!) George, William & Mary, Butterifs, Long Lawford, Labourer Couldn't find a marriage for William and Mary in Newbold on Avon registers so went to find 1851 census to see where Mary was born as they would have married in her home parish. 1851 census HO 107/2069 Page 12 Folio 129 George Butterifs, Visitor, aged 2 staying with John and Ann Matthews and their son Thomas Page 13 Folio 129 William Butterifs, Servant, aged 19, unmarried, Gardener, born Long Lawford. Can't read the rest of the household to say who he was working for :( p28 Folio 137 William Butterifs, head, widowed, 44, Rail? Lab?, born Wolston, Warwickshire John Butterifs, son, 14, Plow boy, born Long Lawford Thomas Butterifs, son, 12, Plow Boy, born Long Lawford George (but probably meant to be James) Butterifs, son, 10, School, born Long Lawford Joseph Butterifs, son, 6, School, born Long Lawford So I had a look at Wolston parish records just in case and found the following (which was difficult to make out, hence the ? every so often!) ? October 1828 William Butterfs of this parish married Mary ? of this parish I've had a look on the IGI and found 17th October 1828 William Butress married Mary Vann and this has been transcribed from the parish records so am inclined to believe it. Hope thats helped :)

Susie Manterfield - I looked at the Churchover records and I've failed to find an Etty, Betty or Elizabeth Irons being baptised between 1778 and 1797 or any other Irons. The only thing I can think of is that they were baptised elsewhere so will work out which churches are likely possibilities and search them. Other than that I will have to try other surnames. I have found an Elizabeth Hyrons baptism in Church Lawford on the IGI in 1891 so will check that out next time too. Carole in Lincs - Am ever so sorry but couldn't find any Birmingham records at the Library.

Marcie in Bucks - I had a look at the Monks Kirby records but unfortunately drew a bit of a blank. The parish records are hard to read, but I'll try again next time I go. The IGI seems to suggest it should be in November 1798 so I'll try again. I did find these though but I have no idea of they will be of any use to you Monks Kirby parish Marriages 24th April 1780 William Palmer & Elizabeth Lines Both of this Parish 11th November 1790 Richard Yardley (widower) & Mary Lines Both of this Parish Ann Nolan - Sorry, there were no Birmingham records at the library.
