Mad Alice Report 28 Oct 2004 19:41

I'm afraid I did not do as well as I would have liked to, and only found a couple of things I was asked to. Good job I don't try to make a living from this I'd be starving..... If you haven't been there the Records Office is really modern and well organised with helpful staff. If I'd had more time I would have stayed longer as i quite enjoyed the morning. I'm afraid I did not really have enough information for some of the look ups - really need a Parish in Norwich or village name in Norfolk. Just searchin Norwich is like looking for a needlle in a haystack. If I go again I'll post another message and if you have any more info by then I'll be happy to help! Linda

Hi again "Mad Alice" I would love to take you up on the offer of a look-up at Norfolk. I'm looking a marriage between Robert Skinner and Mary Chittleburgh at Topcroft, Norfolk. Should be 1719. It is possible that the names were Robert Chittleburgh and Mary Skinner, but that's what I need to confirm. Please don't spend too much time on it though! Many thanks Paula

If you get a chance - you look inundated already, wonder if you could have a quick look for burial of Jonas Horstead in Hethersett between 1851 -60 please. He was 76 and still working as an ag lab in the 1851 census. Many thanks.

Paula I really really wanted to find the marriage for you as you had been so helpful to me, but although I was sure I was in the right place - no correct names. The writing was very old and faded and some slightly illegible. I believe you can see the originals or sometimes there is a transcript. If I go again I will find out more. Sorry I couldn't bee more helpful let me know if you want another look up as office is open on sat morning and I could nip in for an hour before I go into town Mad as ever! Alice

Pat Had never heard of Freebridge and could not find record book so was going to ask assistant, however she was busy and at the end I was in a rush and left without asking! I have googled and see it is near Kings Lynn I was looking round Norwich area records. Will keep your details and be sure to ask when I go next time. What's really annoying is that I'm sure yours would have been easy as you have all the info! Really sorry Alice

Gail looked at Lakenham in 1798 he was not there- sorry, I could only find the church of St. John- don't know if it was the right one but I guess it was. Records for 1927 were not there. Il'll look later and see if there were 2 churches of similar name but then they should have had records anyway. Hope I can be more helpful sometime, alice

Beverly Lots of the records for Walsingham had been burned but I did look look briefly at Fakenham and could not spot them. However time was ticking on and I was in a rush. Recorfs were on microfiche and machinery and I don't always mix! However I looked at 1881 marriages and back a few years - no joy. I thought it would have been a good idea to look up birh as that would give fathers details perhaps - bu tiiiii ran out of time. willing to look again next time I am on holiday or one Sat morning Alice
