Just had another look, they don't seem to be on any earlier census than 1850, perhaps they came to the US between 1840 and 1850...possible i suppose. Dawn |

Hi Dawn. I appreciate your help :~) Sorry, I don't know when they arrived. Supposedly John Ovens and Jane Wakefield were married in 1842 in the States, possibly New Jersey. I know that Jane was born in 1825 and John was most likely either born in 1811 or 1813. Jane most likely came over with her family, as her father (Edward) is buried in Ontario. I cannot find any information on John's arrival. I appreciate your time, Dawn. Thank you. |

Hi Dawn. I think they arrived in that time period as well. The family tale was that they arrived in the States, with Grandpa Robert being born "right off the boat" and then they immediately left for Canada. Must have been a long pregnancy, eh, since they were here at least 7 years. :~) Thank you, Dawn. |

Hi Christine: I just peeked in for a minute. I would be glad to investigate when I return home and will email you. We're from Canada so I've done very little research in the States, but I would be very happy to see if I can find anything. When I first saw your posting I actually looked in "inGeneas" and the 1901 Canadian census in case your Whittington ancestors were up there (didn't find anything). I will let you know where I've looked and if I've had any success. Have to run, my husband is waiting. :~) |

I'm not sure if you can help or not but I'm looking for my father and grandfather. My grandfather was born in 1911 and is called Andrew Greenwood and my father was born in 1929 and is Andrew John Greenwood. The latter was born in Waterbury Connecticut.I can't find them on any census but know that Ancestry has city directories and there is one for 1942-3 which should show them both.I can't get on the free site for some reason. Thanks. |
