Hi Anne, many thanks for the kind offer. Could you look-up John Humphries, Humphris or Humphreys born c1837 in Warwickshire for me please. I`m not sure of the spelling as on each other census it`s different. On 1881 census he was living in Upton St. Leonards, Gloucester. It says born in Warwickshire. I`ll send you a mail as well. Many thanks,Julie

Elizabeth I checked for Samuel, none old enough to have married in 1809, but you don't give a birth date so I can't be sure. Most Marys were born after 1800. I just found this one that would fit for age. You also didn't give me place of birth. I assume uffculme was the place of census?? Uffculme is Tiverton so maybe you would like to have a look at this one. John Sanders head M 53 M gardener b Silverton Mary Sanders M 53 F born Tiverton Mary Parkhoue Lodg W 79 F pauper born Tiverton Address leat St Seward Building Tiverton Census Tiverton Dev HO/107/1889 Folio 326 Page 32. Do you know any of the children's names? Ann Glos

Hello Ann Thank you so much for your kind offer. Please could you look up on the Devon census the family of Thomas Bray b 1834 Brixham, Devon. He was a fisherman. I am also looking for William Bray 1883 Brixham, also a fisherman and probably his brother. According to tradition father would also have been a fisherman!!! William Bray was on board the Xantho in 1881 and Thomas's son was born on the Splendid in 1853. There is a possibility that the family were all sea therefore, during the 1851 census as fishermen did take their wives and families with them. Worth looking to check if they were in port. Many thanks Jackie

Hi Anne Thank you so much. yes -this is Thomas in 1851. The Cornishes who he was apprenticed to are a huge Brixham family and still in Brixham today. The William I'm after was a year or two older than Thomas, also born Brixham. Is there an entry for him? I believe that he may have been Thomas's brother as he ended up in Hull in 1991 with Thomas's son. I can't be more precise about his year of birth as there is no entry in the parish records. Many thanks Jackie

Thank you Ann. Am away this weekend so please could you email me -don't want to lose the thread! Beginning to wonder if William and Thomas were cousins, not brothers. Strange thing is that they all married in Hull and had homes in Brixham and Hull!! On IGI says Mary came from Hull. Think they must all have been born on board fishing boats between the two places, although births always registered in Totnes for Brixham but marriages took place in Hull!! I live in Brixham, believe it or not, and this is the first connection my rellies have with Devon. They all came from Hull!! Small world. Will go to the museum over Easter and see what I can rake up from records there -handy!! Thanks again. Jackie
