Find Ancestors

Looking for any info on the surname MISY - this is my mothers maiden name and her great grandmother was supposed to have come across from France to England at the end of the 19th century. She had a child, then married a John Hart possibly and had other children.....first child was put into orphanage possibly. Lots of maybes!!! Very uncommon name, so any info about any MISY relatives would be of great help. Thanks in advance.....Sam (via Dad Martins PC)

Hi Margaret, Yes - tried Missy, Missi, Mizzi etc etc....any searches I do seem to bring up the computer termionology of "misys", other wise the slang missy. Wonder how I find out about french/ english immigration record for that time. Sam

Hi Tracey, Yes - that is my great grandfather - his mother was Pauline from France, and we have no idea who his father is, or why he(William) was put into a home, or when - he was brought up an orphan, but actually had a mother, brothers and a step father.....would love to find out the circumstances! Sam, These info I gave you... with Page and Vol numbers on it... which means that you can actually order the certificate and put those Vol & Page number for the registrar to find it easily ... they cost £7 each and like Margaret in Burton said... Try the website she left .. you can order it online there too. If you order it and receives it.. you should have the parents names on it. Tracy

one strange thing is on the 1901 census(I dont have full access) if you enter MISY and male search there is george there age 5, but not William - instead there is a Paul age 7(which would make him the same age as William) although like I said William was brought up as a orphan at St Vincents I think it was called, by the nuns. Would these children have had their name changed to Hart when their mother married? Would this have been registered/ documented? How do I find out census details for them ? I too took a look at the 1901 census.. and it sure does say George & Paul aged the same as William and George.. that was a bit of puzzle there. I think they may have changed names OR they've been "adopted" to change the surname .. like my partner he had to be adopted in order to have his surname to be the same as his step-father's. My best bet is to obtain the certs and see if they've added a note or something like they did with my partner's own cert. I'll check out something as I have part of 1901 census images for Paddington.. and seeing one person was born there, he maybe on the census that I have. Tracy

Just found Pauline Hart(presume nee Misy) on the 1901 census - details as follows Pauline Hart 26 France Middlesex Acton Laundress . Is there any way of working out who was in the household and where it was on the same census? Sam

I've took a peek and used the decoder.. There are only two of them in the same household.. Sam, I presume that they've had more children AFTER the 1901 census was taken, hence not showing any one else in the household.

Hi Tracey, I dont know - we only found out that William wasnt an orphan last year! Maybe the children kept the surname Misy - and they would be in the same household? Would love to find out what happened to the family, who we never knew existed - george/paul/ pauline /john and any others there may be out there. I know the offspring of William - who became William Thomas VINCENT Misy (named presumably after the childrens home he was brought up in) Is there anything else we can look for? Sam

Sam, Actually, Paul and George maybe in the same household.. looking back to 2 children.. same census place & county. So my guess is that all 4 are in the same house hold.. the only way to find out is to pay to view to see who lives with Pauline & John Hart. Sorry for not able to help you more there.

Martin Just read thru and noted query about change in childrens names. I was adopted and when that happend both my first and surname were changed by my adoptees! Gerry
