Can anyone tell me how and were to find information on people who were in workhouses in Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. |

The work house records usually belonged to the master at the time. when one left and another one came, the previous records were often destroyed. If you are lucky and they were kept, they will be in the records office for the area. Even if they survive, you would normally only find an entry on a list giving date of admission and date of discharge. If they died, it may give the cemetery they were buried in. |

Tyne and Wear Archives may help. There aren't records for inmates of Gateshead Workhouse though - as far as I've established. I don't know about Newcastle . Deborah |
