1861 census lookup...

Can anyone find this family on the 1861 census?

Daughter Maria Cameron born 1854 +/- 1 (from her wedding cert she was 22 on 05/09/1876) born in Fort William, Invernesshire, Scotland.

Father John Cameron, mother Christine Cameron.
Somewhere the name Somerville comes in, either as the maiden name of the mother, or the middle name of the father, it was quoted as the former on Maria's death certificate and the latter on the marriage certificate, so I am trying to trace the parents to see which was right.

Maria married in Australia, in 1876 and I think one of the witnesses was her father, so I also need to check the ships lists to see when the family emigrated.

Any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

PS father John was a carpenter.

Sorry, got confused with dates so I've deleted the census info which couldn't possibly be them.

Ozi.. thanks for the lookup.. but that can't be them, as their daughter Maria was born in 1854....

Pamela

Pamela Report 15 Nov 2007 19:58

Glitterbaby, thanks again, but still I don't think that is the right John.

Mine will be John Cameron, married to Christina Cameron, daughter born c1854, Maria...

Pamela

Pamela Report 15 Nov 2007 21:46

Glitterbaby... hmmm the mystery deepens as in that last census she is shepherd's WIFE ... John's a carter... not a shepherd... I suspect that there are a fair few Camerons in the vicinity though.. clearly not a simple request!!

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 15 Nov 2007 21:50

However it does fit with crofter in 1861.

Pamela

Pamela Report 15 Nov 2007 22:05

Ozi .. hmmm ..... but the ages get a bit loose to match the 1851's to the 1861's .. and he was a carpenter according to the 1876 marriage certificate, so I would have expected if he had that skill, that he would have been carpentering in Scotland?

Anything's possible I admit...
