Please could somebody have a look on the 1901 census for Sarah h swannack born 1880 Carlton nottinghamshire, i would say she must be in westmorland as her parent's Fanny (1846)and Charles Swannack (1856) are listed as living at The Strables Summerland's Lodge Preston richard Westmorland withother children Emily 1882 and Fanny 1887,other son Child living at windermere on 1901 census as spelt Swanack not Swannack. I'm almost certain Sarah known as Sally is in westmorland as she lived at Endmoor later inlife, i don't think she married..
many thanks

Oh shoot .........................

There is a Sarah A Swanwick on the 1891, living in Nottinghamshire with her parents.

So ..... this is probably wrong!

I thought it was too easy!

I was half expecting it when I saw Preston Richard in the ehading, as that side of his fmaily came from that area of Westmorland.

Most of them were farming fmailies, and the girls often went into doemstic service.

What is VERY weird is that I only began connecting this particular family two nights ago.

Many thanks to you both, this is great! the last one looks to be the one as she is in Westmorland, just the spelling that is wrong which i have found is quite frequent with this surname, her brother is listed as Charles swanack...so swanwick is another possibility....but i'm certain this is her..thankyou again this is a great help
kindest regards

How strange Sylvia that you have been looking at this area with your family...Preston patrick still exsists but i think Preston richard has emerged into Endmoor..just outside Kendal

I got a batch of obituary cards (I have a thread Mother Lode about this!), and found a Margaret Taylor who died in Winnipeg in 1919.

Never knew before that that any of that side had emigrated.

I was helped to find her arrival in canada with a brother William.

The only family I found that fit the criteria also has Agnes A

Much more digging needed to find out exactly how they fit in, ie whose sibling in which generation.

Hi Angela

Husband's families are the Parks, Taylors, Whiteheads and Rowlandsons, all from the Heversham/Preston Patrick/Preston Richard areas.

As one Park family had 20 children ..............................

Wow....20 children!! that's some going! and doing...
the surname whitehead and Rowlinson seem to ring a bell, as i have Fawcett, Nelson and Holliday's from this area plus the swannack's that moved and appeared on the 1901 census as being in this area, just got to find the connection why they came from Carlton / Worksop Nottingham to be there

Thomas Whitehead born 21 dec 1807 kendal married Barbara Holiday in 1830

That could be interesting!

I know a number of the 20 moved to Lancashire, mainly the Liverpool area. BUT their momma had family ties near Preston.

Of course, it could also be where they found jobs and opportunities.

AH! There could be a connection, possibly, maybe!

I haven't really traced the Whitehead connection yet.

Husband's ggrandfather Robert Park married Isabella Whitehead in 1877. She was born in 1850 in Preston Patrick, the daughter of Thomas Whitehead (1821, Underbarrow) and Frances Mattinson (ca 1826, Old Hutton). Frances was probably the daughter of Richard Mattinson.

Thomas Whitehead's father was married to Isabella ??, and he died before 1841 so I mam having some problems finding definite information on him.
