Help needed trying to find parents of Bessie Coombes born 1871 Culmstock would anyone be able to find them or would i have to go to the records office or order birth certificate?

Culmstock is in Devon isnt it?

Did she marry? You could buy her marriage cert for her dads name and occupation or her birth cert for mums full name too.

Is Bessie a nickname also where is Culmstock

yes culmstock is in Devon know she married a george henry furbear 1887 didnt realise that mothers name would be on marriage cert, just wondered if anyone would have a website that might show mothers name

No, her mums name would be on the birth cert not the marriage cert :)

You can buy a cert from GRO online for £7 using the GRO ref.

Have you got her marriage cert? Im just wondering as that census info may appear to suggest mum was unmarried?

i have her on the 1871 census but just shows her as grandaugter

head is Ann coombes and there also is an Eliza coombes who is the heads daughter living there as well, but seeing as a lot of the family lived in the village i thought bessie may have been visiting cannot find her in 1881 census next time i find her is 1891 and she is married to George henry furbear

You need to buy the birth cert really to see if a father is named.

thanks looks like i have to. doh. I was thinking of popping into taunton records office hoping they would have something would anyone know? as that is only about 7 miles away from me and culmstock even tho is devon comes under somerset

Oh well worth going there to have a look Id thought - just check on their website that they will have the records you need though :)

Culmstock is about 7 miles NE of Cullompton in Devon and Cullomton is about 20 miles north of Exeter, Culmstock was, until 1937, in the registration district of Wellington, Somerset, Cullomton was in the registration district of Tiverton.

On FreeBMD is a registration for a Bessie Coombs in the December quarter of 1872 in Exeter registration district.. Also a registration for another Bessie Coombs in the march quarter f 1869 at St Thomas (part of Exeter).

i looked up eliza and and john pike and no mention of bessie i even trawled all the census for the whole of culmstock for 1881 and couldnt find her

OK now we know the spelling and that her place of birth is in the Wellington registration district, this registration looks more likely:
