cant see we gave you the 1953 marriage cert ref here it is

Dec qtr 1953

Alfred Hughes spouse Zikking Coventry 9c 1097

KathleenBell Report 19 Nov 2007 15:49

If he was registered in the Dec. qtr. of 1926 (which he should have been), there are two births in Warwickshire which could be him (again assuming he was born in Warwickshire which he might not have been). The two births are:-

Alfred Hughes, mmn Hughes
Dec. qtr. 1926, meriden, 6d, 902

and

Alfred Hughes, mmn Beardsmore
Dec. qtr. 1926, Birmingham N., 6d, 814

It would be better to wait until you have his marriage certificate to see if it names a father. The first birth above looks to be to a single mother so if there is no father named on the marriage certificate this could be the one.

Unfortunately there's 10 Alfred Hughes just in dec qtr alone 1926 plus he may have been reg early Jan cos you have 6 weeks to register a birth and there's 3 there.

I think you need to find dads name from that marriage cert and then we may find a marriage so as to see a maiden name for his mum

order online from
http://www.gro.gov.uk.

you have to register- Free and use that GRO quoted ,certs cost £7 with that ref, and make sure you tick the box, on the first page of the order form, that you have the GRO Ref . you only need then to specify what type of cert ie tick marriage ,give one of the names and then the GRO where asked . Dont try to fill in too much cos you dont need it ,.
The GRO website quoted will give you loads of info on what to do.

Similarly if you want to get that death cert

Lindsay has given you the reference numbers for their marriage certificate in her reply above. You can order online from this address:-

www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates.

It will cost you £7 if you tick the box to say you have the full GRO reference.

do you mean Thomas Zikking and Margaret Palmer?

The marriage cert will give their ages and them maybe we can backtrack from there. You could try Freebmd for Thomas birth cos thats an unusual name

Is there any way of me finding out the dates of births of my new found great grandparents?

Cheryl

Cheryl Report 19 Nov 2007 14:23

Thank you all for the information you have provided. It has been more than helpful. I think you are right on the middle name being Margaret. You have put my mind to rest and i can now pass the information over to my mum. If anyone has any more information i would be most gratefull.

Thank you all once again.

If you send for her birth certificate using the reference numbers Shirley has found for you, it will give you her exact date of birth, which will help to confirm if the death Shirley found is likely to be the right one.

Are you sure of her middle name? Could it be Margaret rather than Mary? Only buying the birth certificate will confirm this.
