Pamela,
Cannot see Francis or Eleanor in the Hampshire Buriel Index(which goes up to 1837) so if they are not in the 1841 census they may have died between 1837 and 1841!
There is one Francis 2nd Q 1839 at Plympton on Free BMD,

Did James marry at all after 1837?
His father's name should be on the marriage certificate.
I was able to confirm a father for an 1807 born Jane JONES because of a much later 2nd marriage.

Pamela,
The Hampshire Baptism Index has only the one James BRIDGES bapt in 1813 anywhere in the Portsmouth area.(there is one in 1815 at Catherington)
He is the one you have:-
14 Nov 1813-BRIDGES James s Francis and Eleanor at Portsea.
I will look and see if Francis' buriel is on the Buriel Index and get back to you!

I have on the 1841/1851 censuses a James Bridges born c1813 of Portsmouth.

I wonder if anyone could find a baptism, as the only one on the IGI is in Portsea which isn't technically the same place, and I can't verify the parents through to the 1841/51 census as they don't appear. James' profession was a shoemaker/cordwainer so I thought if I found the father on a census with the same occupation that would be a good chance. (I am looking to find his parents)

Any info appreciated, I realise Portsmouth was a pretty busy place, but there are only a handful of "Bridges" on the 1841/51 census there.

many thanks
