I can't understand why we can't find any of them anywhere

............... unless a) there has been a gross mis-transcription of Hayman (and I am searching on christian names only at the moment!!),

or b) they changed their name for some reason?????

I cann't understand why Thomas and Samuel are not to be found unless like you said under another surname.

I did wonder about that one myself.

and .......... John Hayman with wife Ann does not appear on the 1871 census when we have John Hayman and wife Jane!

so that is suspicious in and of itself.

But I then started looking for a marriage!

Hi Sylvia, On the 1881 census it just says he was born Montgomery. I suppose he could have changed fro coal to lead mining. I cann't find the children on the earlier census.

Hi Sylvia,
I too have just been searching but to no avail.Felt a fool when you mentioned boys birthplace. Sorry but i do not know any more only what is on the 1871 census. All i have been told of this family is they lived in a cottage out in the middle of nowhere and thought it may have been too remote for the census to have been taken.

I cannot see them on an earlier census ... and I have been playing around with using no names, etc etc etc.

Do you know when they got married?

Could it be a late marriage, and the boys be Jane's?

On the 1871 Wales census I have

John Hayman 56 lead miner born Chirbury Salop

I have Thomas in 1881 on England census at same place
