If your rellies are from Stoke area as well, you could always try www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk that gives the name of both bride and groom.

What year?

If you are talking after about 1912, the surname of the spouse will be in the GRO index, then you need to look up at that surname and find the one with the matching spouse name, if that makes sense.

eg. Smith William JONES Stoke 6b 982

You would then look for Jones marriages and find the one that married a Smith with matching district/page number etc. Smith and Jones are probably not the best names to use but you get the idea!

Before that time, if you can find the person on FreeBMD or Ancestry, you usually get 2 brides and 2 grooms to a page. Look them up on the next available census to see who married who.
